As revealed in last weeks news update the 1400cc Banger 2007 Suffolk Open Team Championship on Good Friday April 6 looks set to be the biggest one yet as RDC confirmed it had opened the event up to no less than 40 teams and that only one space remained available.

This week we can confirm that the 40th place has indeed been secured. In fact it was secured just hours after last weeks news update and since then many teams have applied only to be sadly told the meeting is now fully booked.

The team which grabbed the final spot is a new team to the Good Friday event, namely the Yougsters. As the name suggests it is a group of young guns including 455 Luke Cornish who scooped the best newcomer prize among the merit awards at the 2006 white and yellow grade series final. The team will certainly be eager to make an impression at this one.

As promised we will be bringing you loads more on this massive event in the coming weeks including a full list of the teams and their drivers but in the mean time here is the list of teams who are booked in for the event.

PostSubject: Re: Mildenhall good friday teams.   Tue Feb 06, 2007 5:56 pm

We are on the road now to one of the highlights of the year at RDC with the 2007 1400cc Banger Suffolk Open Team Championship on Good Friday April 6 at Mildenhall Stadium.

The popularity of this event has once again been absolutely incredible, so much so that once again we have pushed the boundaries for the amount of teams participating even more and a whopping 40 teams have been granted a place at this huge banger event.

And still more teams were turned away!

40 teams means we could see anything up to 240 bangers in action on Good Friday meaning this could be one of, if the, biggest meeting of the year (in terms of car numbers at least), not only at RDC but anywhere in the country in 2007.

RDC is delighted with the line up for the event which looks very impressive on paper and the Damage Inc will have a hard fought battle in order to retain the title although they have put together a very strong side for the event including no less than two world champions!

Both the Condoms and the Young Guns will be looking to make history by winning the title for the third time, which has never been done before while there are 37 other teams keen to win this event for the first time.

After years of coming close can the all female side of the Wonderbras finally take the title after finishing second three times, will the reigning Kent team champions the Dover Boys continue their success, what about former Old Skool champions the Gypsy Crew, the ever consistent Allstars, Twisted Metal who have twice finished in the top three and the recently crowned 1500cc Icebreaker champions the Luniz.

The visiting entry is once again very impressive. Stinkbridge make a welcome return after being heavily involved in the 2005 event, after making a big impact last year the Bong Gang return with two teams featuring drivers from all across the country, the largely Fleet based 3Litre and Have It Mag sides are bound to be lively as will PRI outfits such as Thattadoo and the Bad Company and TSR based side the Undertakers.

It won't just be the visiting drivers supplying the action as plenty of RDC teams will be looking to make a mark and give them a warm welcome. You can almost guarantee the Management and Motley Krew teams plus Team Kamikaze, Aftermath, Mad Mob and Clangers will be well involved.

This page will be regularly updated in the run up to Good Friday to keep you informed of all the news about the meeting and a full preview of all the teams and an official meeting preview will appear closer to April 6.

It will be a big meeting on April with eight heats, one more than last year (of up to 42 cars), each carrying an entertainer award, Accumulator, Grand Final and American Style DD plus a full programme of Ministox racing too with the young guns appearing in an open meeting featuring drivers from RDC and other promotions.

In order to keep this as an open meeting and to have such a giant sized banger entry the Ministox action will commence at 1pm with their three qualifying races being completed ahead of 2pm when the banger heats will begin. The final and allcomers for the young guns will be held later in the afternoon.

The Bong Gang made a welcome debut appearance a year ago and surprised many by making it through to the final six. However that is not to say they had a quiet day, in fact quite the opposite as they were putting in several hits throughout the afternoon en route to making the final. They clearly enjoyed the experience as they are back again with two outfits which are bound to make an impact. It remains to be seen whether they will reach the final once more or instead if they will concentrate on their more typical crashing exploits. Chances are they will probably see how it goes and take it from there but their progress will be interesting to charter as the day unfolds. The A team has a more traditional Bong Gang feel to it with regular members 30 the Addict, 303 Scotty, 331 Jay Roberts, 434 Burnsy and 720 Rog with the former pairing and the latter being a part of last year’s team. None of these drivers are afraid of a good crash and it will certainly be welcome to see Roberts make his Mildenhall debut as he is a bright hope for the future, Completing the team is Barrow Boy team regular 16 Pob who is another hot top for the future and should make an impact at this one. The B team features drivers from all over. Headed by 228 Jonathan Bricknell (more well known as number 2) who is considered by many to be one of Standlake’s finest. He was in the team last year and can crash and race with the best of them. Green team pairing 123 Robo and 699 Trotter have proved useful in the past, especially the latter who is one of the top men on the Grimley scene. 152 Mr Grumpy adds a pinch of Scottish interest to the meeting and will be eager to make his latest long journey south worth the while. Completing the line up is live wire 862 Dave Kingston who, while seemingly never having the greatest measure of luck, is another fine entertainer.
