Team Preview
This season has seen a superb return to form of the Aftermath who have seen many of its leading names enjoy a busy season than ever while the ranks have been boosted by several enthusiastic new recruits and as a result with have three teams from the 'Math here and they are bound to be heavily involved. While they are rarely considered title contenders the B team could spring a surprise and should they make the final that could give them a great chance of lifting the season long RDC team titles. World champion 1 Flats, 183 Bobby Wilmer and 603 the Younger Hitman are all very much capable of good results at Mildenhall as too is 417 Dan Davey when he puts his mind to it. Elsewhere and the ranks boasts trademark big hitters such as 391 Ol Matey, 400 Shinny, 602 Mr Moody and 604 Ross Cooper who are bound to be well involved. Completing the ranks is lively new addition to the team in 2009, 415 Scott Cornish who has gone up a level since joining the team, lively newcomer 100 Captain Cock and 460 Lewis Barber will want to impress on their debut in the colours as will 545 Huffy who could prove good for some points having won the white and yellow grade series final.
Bad News are regulars at the RDC team meetings and their new found liking for Mondeos means they will fit in well here. Unlikely to be chasing the title or even a place in the final but more than capable of taking an entertainer awards these guys will, as always be looking to have an enjoyable evening. 21 Jason Colbert, 192 Terry Nightingale, 277 Des Owen and 291 Jay Giddings are no strangers to crashing and will back down to no-one which means the heats which feature them are bound to be lively.
Owing to the injury of 511 Helen Licquorice, the Banger Wags like up is a little different to normal with the under rated 212 Super Mario stepping in as a somewhat unusual replacement but he is very capable of scoring well if he can stay out of trouble and the same can be said for 84 Our Lizzy who is perhaps their best bet as scoring points. 317 Vicky Woods is an underrated ladies in the sport and 384 Danielle Friel could be a useful addition on her Mildenhall banger debut having secured several good showing in her Ministox days and more recently in Rookie Banger formulas. Might not have the strength to win overall but more than capable of making the final.
The Beck Row Bandits are another of the teams who start the afternoon as one contenders for the RDC Team Championships but in order to do that their best shot could be winning on the day and this quartet is more than capable of doing that providing they are all on form. 22 Dave Vincent has often been hit with rotten luck but on his day he is still capable of beating anyone and everyone at Mildenhall while 67 Sparky has had his best season at West Row in many years in 2009. Former track champion 125 Hittler and 249 Frosty make rare, but welcome outings and are also very capable of boosting the points total at this one. A team which will be very disappointed if it doesn't make the final at the very least.
Over the last couple of seasons the Bits and Bobs contingent has not only become a regular factor of RDC team meetings but also the team now is fairly regular in its line up. This is another squad more than capable of making the final providing they are all on form on the night, 425 Mr Vauxhall perhaps the best bet while 761 No Luck Nat has seen a return to fortune in recent weeks including a race win last month. 303 Wayne Linsdale is also capable winning on his day as is the vastly experienced 437 Chris Bailey. Should all four be on form here they could be a surprise package.
The Common Crushers have proved superb additions to the RDC team meetings since debuting at this event last year and their entertaining ways mean they start the afternoon with a small lead in the RDC team championship where their best bet of holding onto the top spot could be going for entertainer awards in each of their heats. This is guaranteed to make then a squad to watch on the day, not that you ever need an excuse to keep an eye on live wires 60 Shakey Jnr and 70 Ant Long who are joined for the first time by 50 Simon West who will looking to make an impact on his Mildenhall debut. One of the many crash happy teams on the list bound to inject some action into this one.
It's always welcome to see the Cowboys on a team meeting entry list and the famous blue, white and red colours will once again be present here. Another team which is unlikely to start the afternoon fancying their chances but would no doubt be thrilled to make the final or win an entertainer award and they are more than capable of either. 101 Garry and 102 Marc Deacon are not only two very experiences racers but two highly under rated performers while 205 Koonta and 518 Bilko Jnr are two very capable young guns who complete a team which is bound to make some sort of impression.
Former Kent team champions the Dover Boys are often consistent at the Mildenhall team events but are yet to take a top spot at one of the Suffolk team meetings. In all honesty this quartet is unlikely to change that as the team is very different to what we expect from this faction but nonetheless this team should not be overlooked. Supreme and RDC Drivers Champion 188 Victor is wrapping up the season of his life where he has gone from not only one of RDC's elite but one of the finest in the sport. 898 Andy Battle isn't far behind despite 2009 failing to match the standards he set in 2008 but both will be expected to score well here. Making their debut in the colours are 259 Big Dan and 897 the Duck whose success could be vital as just a handful of points might make the difference. The former makes his track debut after a highly successful maiden full season at Dover.
The Flintstones is a long running team names from the dirt tracks of Essex but I believe this will be their first outing at an RDC team event where they start as dark horses at the very best. However 300 Darryl McMahon, 539 Danny and 540 Scott Allen are all experienced at Mildenhall and have enjoyed some lively outings between them which suggests their best chance of success could be collecting an entertainer award which would no doubt please them all. Guaranteed to enjoy their afternoon come what may.
With precious little being seen of the Midnight Runners on their home soil at PRI in 2009 we have been fortunate enough to see plenty of one of the sports leading squads at the RDC team events where they came close to success on both Good Friday and at the Old Skool. While this quartet is perhaps not the strongest team the Runners could have put forward it is still a most usueful side which many would be surprised to not make the final where overall victory may be their best chance of winning the RDC team title. 88 Splosh is one of the sports leading young guns and impressed greatly at the Inter Counties in June while 180 Sparky's Hot Shots win in May was arguably the highlight of his breakout year. While failing to lift a major title, 730 Deano remained one of the sports finest this season and 242 Korps is an ever dependable team player who completes a useful looking team more than capable of a top finish or dealing with anyone who crosses their path.
The Motley Krew are another team which form the backbone of the RDC team events and a specially impressive performance at Dover in August means they are another of the 10 contenders for the RDC team championship. They'll be looking to score well and may need a combination of getting one of their two teams in the final and picking up at least one entertainer award if they are to win the season long points race and victory on the day might be asking a little much. 311 Helm continues to spearhead the team and was in vintage form at the aforementioned Dover event while 320 Smiler, 46 Pecker and 170 Darren Teal rarely disappoint at these events, the latter impressing greatly at the Old Skool. Condom regular 203 Gnasher is a welcome and useful guest and 10 Neil Thomas and 210 Slim are regulars in the team these days who are every improving. A lively looking pair of teams which are bound to feature at some stage.
Reigning RDC team champions the Predators may have not been able to match their incredible form of last season but they remain an asset of the RDC team scene and always inject plenty of action into these events. They start as the tenth team in contention for the RDC team championship and so while they have a small mountain to climb in order to retain the title it is not impossible if they can equal their efforts last season which saw them take numerous entertainer awards on the day. 404 Spook, 519 Knuckles, 79 Twelly, 157 Piglet, 176 Gibo and 779 Munch are all regulars in the team and all but the former were well involved at Halloween Havoc while Piglet was one of the stars of the first half of the season the crashing front. Knuckles also deserves much praise with his numerous visits this season, many of which have been lively. 192 Fat Head makes another guest appearance and 89 Joe Barrett debuts in the clours and will look to mark the occasion in style. A hard hitting pair of teams which are bound to bring plenty of action in every race they feature in.
Another team which helps make up the backbone of the Mildenhall team events are the Rat Pack and again these band of lesser lights will be out for maxiumum enjoyment. Another team which will not start as favourites but more than capable of making the final should all four fine fortune and they would no doubt be overjoyed to get that far. 8 Dale Woolnough, 141 Mud Dog, 565 Mark Carter and 928 Emmerson Prime all help make up the backbone of the healthy RDC domestic scene and it would be fantastic for them to enjoy some success at this one. Bearing the mind the afternoon has the potential to be heavy, if they could stay out of trouble they might surprise.
Despite being regular visitors to Mildenhall this will mark the first outing as a team for an official team event by the midlands based Stanley Crew. 196 Ginner, 223 Bushy, 237 Stretch and 648 the Dart are all impressive rising stars on the Incarace scene who rarely get the credit they deserve but 2009 has seen them start to race at more team events and its great to see them finally get round to appearing at an RDC team meeting. A side more than capable of making an impact regardless of their intentions, it would be no surprise to see them in the final or claim some entertainer silverware and hopefully this will mark the first of many team appearances by them at RDC.
Former winners of this event Team Flash have enjoyed a fine return to form in 2009, impressing at the Kent teams and making the final at the Old Skool which helps them start the afternoon as another team in the running for the RDC Team Championship where the key to success could be trying to regain the title. 122 Woodsy and 128 Shippy are not only proving to be excellent additions to the team but also superb additions to the RDC fold while 381 Craig Upson is proving to be another fine Ministox graudate with excellent displays at the Kent teams and Old Skool. 388 Emmo once again brings much experience to the team as does 61 Flash who has enjoyed an excellent 2009 season and he'll be hoping for a fine finish to the year, certainly a faction to keep and eye on and not overlook.
Team Flub is our second midlands based team on the list and much like the first team to come from Incarace country, they too make their debut at a Mildenhall team bash. In fact we believe this is the first time this squad has raced as a unit and these young guns have more than enough capability to pack a punch and could be a very good outside bet to make the top three. 362 Matt Godden was one the newcomers of 2008 and 128 Mark Atkins is one of the newcomers of 2009. Both have plenty of Mildenhall experience under their belt too, the former managing a top 10 finish in the British while Atkins took an excellent second in the TSR World in July. 61 Stu Holdsworth is also no stranger to Mildenhall while newcomer 462 James Bruce has already enjoyed a couple of visits to the Suffolk shaleway and is more than capable of holding his own.
Defending champions Team Green clearly mean business this year with three squads which are packed full of top talent including many of RDC’s top young guns. The A team boasts three of last years winning team with the ever capable 86 Alec Savage, 370 John and 371 Jason Cobbold joined this year by teenage sensation 382 Jack Foster Jnr who has already become a member of the Mildenhall hat trick club in his first season. The B team is also very strong boasting fellow rated Ministox graduate 17 the Little Chief, 682 Sparra Boy who has enjoyed perhaps his best season to date and the experience of 801 Jack Foster and 807 Murf, the latter another to have a belting year. The 2009 has a bit more crashing flavour to it with livewire 362 Tilly and top entertainer 525 Wes making up half the team but with white and yellow grade series points winner 159 Scarrow Boy and top visitor at Mildenhall in 2009 joining them they are bound to score well. And don’t be fooled all of these guys can hold their own in a tear up, you only need to look back to the Old Skool for proof of that. A faction bound to make a big impact.
While there is no doubting that Team Laybourn could easily challenge for a place in the final if they put their mind to it the greater likelihood is that they will be looking to continue their battle with the Midnight Runners which means they are likely to be a team to watch on the day, especially when their paths cross with the Runners. Both 50 Reece Laybourn and 60 Fat Boy have had some impressive outings at RDC in recent weeks, both having lively days at the Masters as well as decent visits to Mildenhall last month, the latter putting in a fine display when outnumbered by his enemies on DD Night.
Team Lips is essentially a break off of the Renegades who were here in big numbers this year and make a welcome return again. Despite the points scoring potential of 107 Seexy this is another team which won’t start as favourites but will be firmly out to enjoy the afternoon and will probably be satisfied enough if they make it to the final. 139 Karly Parker and 720 Patty are far from the best known names at Mildenhall but both appeared at the Halloween meeting where the latter enjoyed a massive head-on with 547 the BFA.
Team Kamikaze are another staple of the RDC team meeting diets at Mildenhall and its good to see the entertaining bunch back again with two sides which look likely to again inject plenty of action into the session. Having said that they did make the final last year and would no doubt love to do it again as a long time goal of this team is to make the Old Skools in 2010 and having lost their heat this year they recovered well with some entertainer awards to boost their qualifying points. 117 Kamikaze remains one of RDC’s finest and he has enjoyed another great season. He is joined by 278 Sex Pest whose enjoyed a fine return to form in recent weeks after a quieter season this year and this included a last chance qualifying place in the 2Litre world final. Young gun 257 Jaimie Neve has proved a very lively addition to the RDC scene and will be looking for another good showing here. 62 Cushy, 199 Jason Dack, 217 the Mad Irishman and 620 Guy Whitehead have all made odd appearances this season but are all capable of getting stuck in and will be looking for a good showing. Don’t bet again an entertainer award coming their way.
Thattadoo have recently become a regular feature on the Mildenhall scene including the team meetings and so much so that they have two teams for this one. Perhaps not starting as clear favourites this team has the ability to make the finals should they all be firing on all cylinders and it also wouldn’t be a surprise to see them head home with an entertainer award. What is guaranteed is that all the drivers here will enjoy whatever the day brings which is what makes them such fine additions to the line up. 54 Splat has quietly become one of RDC’s most dedicated drivers this season between Mildenhall and Arena meetings and has come on in leaps and bounds in 2009. 200 Skippy has been a little quieter than normal but is still capable of big things on his day while 755 Crabby has proved to be a lively newcomer. 577 Alfie Lee has enjoyed a fine first full season at PRI and could be one to watch while fellow PRI driver 244 Clumsy has put in his biggest season for some time on home turf and is usually lively. 201 Vic Crabb meanwhile makes a rare and welcome appearance and will bring some experience to the side.
The Hogs made their RDC team debut at this one last year and return 12 months later with a band of novice graded drivers who are another part of the backbone of the Mildenhall domestic scene. While on paper they might not jump out as favourites they should not be dismissed as all four are capable of scoring well, even taking race wins, which means if all four are form they could easily make the final which is likely to be their target. 324 Mark Latham is the most experienced and has enjoyed odd wins in recent memory while 328 Daniel Latham has come on in leaps and bounds this season. 326 Ratty is a useful and underrated young gun as is 551 Stu Franklin.
Finally we have the Young Guns which comes from the Beck Row Bandits camp and they will be looking to try and help this faction take the RDC team championship title where their best chance will be playing to their strengths and trying to win on the day. But this meeting has rarely brought luck to this faction so can they turn that around here. Certainly they have the capability to do that, 119 Cruncher has had an excellent year at new promotion TSR but his Mildenhall form has been impressive too winning the BBA British and Allstar Dash for Cash. After a slow start 465 Nine Inch really started to shine a few months into the season and ended the year back to his best including a podium finish in the BBA British. 436 Arni makes a rare but always welcome outing and is usually well involved as he was at the Old Skool and Henham points champion 197 Redneck makes his debut in the colours where he is more than capable of adding to the points tally.
