MEETING INTRODUCTION

We are on the road to our next big one at Mildenhall Stadium with RDC Promotions' Big Night Out featuring the Unlimited Banger Suffolk Open Championship on Saturday July 12 at and this page will be regularly updated and dedicated to the meeting.

This is the one and only night of the year when unlimited bangers will grace the Suffolk shaleway and we are hopeful of a strong showing of the RDC contingent, the regular Mildenhall visitors and even one or high profile and long distance travellers to make an appearance at this one and make this another night of banger racing to remember at the West Row stadium.

The Unlimited Suffolk Open has in recent years established quite the reputation for itself of producing one of the biggest turn outs for big cars anywhere in the sport as well as supplying some superb material and x-rated action.

Even when last years event was hit hard by heavy rainfall there were 100 drivers in action and together they put on some tremendous racing which was well received by all and we are all hoping for plenty more this year.

Please note that due to our informal booking system at RDC this list should be treated as a guide. To be truthful it is a combination of drivers who returned their booking in forms, have booked via the phone in recent days and the ones I can remember telling me they intend to race. And as always no driver will be turned away on the night.

There is still plenty of time to book, either by phone on 01268 412299 or 07850 683953 or e mail at wastedmc@btopenworld.com . As always there is no restrictions on numbers and everyone is welcome. Day licenses for non ORC licensed drivers are available at £20.

And there is plenty more action beside the unlimited bangers as the 11 to 16 year old stars of the future in the Ministox do battle for one of their biggest titles at RDC with the Suffolk Open Championship up for grabs. The meeting is open to drivers from all promotions and with qualifying on the night expect some rough and tough action from the young guns. The proof of the Ministox as a great training ground for stars of the future was proved again last year when 362 Liam Friel lifted the title and in 2008 he has become a leading star in the 1300cc Stockcars at PRI as well as a rising young on the banger scene in the bangers.

This section of the website has been designed to bring you all the information you may need with regard to this big meeting at Mildenhall so please use the quick find links supplied to navigate the page or just scroll down to enjoy the whole thing. As always if there is any questions this page does not answer please call RDC on 01268 412299 or 07850 683953 or e mail wastedmc@btopenworld.com

Introduction

The Suffolk Open Championship is the sole meeting of the season at Mildenhall for unlimited bangers and with big cars and big money on the card this one usually produces big action as well.

The reputation of the Suffolk Open has grown and grown tremendously over recent years and is now one of the best attended unlimited banger meetings of the season (the 2007 event was one of just three unlimited meetings in the country to raise 100 or more cars) and recent events have been regarded as among the best banger meetings of the year, not only at RDC, but anywhere in the country.

One of the reasons the meeting has become so popular with fans and drivers is because of the high levels of superb material which usually competes at the meeting and we are delighted to hear that many drivers are planning to turn out something special for the occasion.

Another reason why this event is so popular is because of the amazing support of the drivers. Many of the RDC regulars are not regulars in this format but every year they excel in finding a suitable car for the big night and the combination of them, the more experienced unlimited banger racers at RDC and many visiting drivers makes for an explosive combination on the night.

The Suffolk Open also boasts a very unusual prize fund. The £1,000 up for grabs is impressive enough but there is almost always more money on offer as the more cars we have and the more races we run then the more cash that is added to the pot. Also the money is spread very thinly over the programme in order to give as many drivers as possible a reward for their efforts and to ensure there is not too much focus on winning the prize money meaning the drivers are freer to get stuck in and put on a great display for the fans.

Entry List

This is probably the most important part of this page, the entry list for the unlimited banger Suffolk Open Championship which is growing steadily all the time and once again has the makings of an impressive entry.

Once again we are adopting an 'old skool' approach to the list by only printing the drivers who have booked and not the cars they plan to race so hopefully we'll have some nice surprises on the night with plenty of tasty tin being promised and one or two very special cars in the pipeline as well if all goes to plan. The latest bookings ate shown in bold (list updated June )

A reminder to all drivers that the new rules regarding unlimited bangers outlaw the majority of front wheel drive cars. Yanks are ok but any typical 2litre banger (Mondeos, Cavaliers, Bluebirds, Vectras, Calibras, Carinas etc are not). If you are unsure please check and remember the smallest car allowed is a Triumph 2000.

Prize Money

Once again the unlimited banger Suffolk Open Championship carries a very large prize money pot. The event is advertised as a £1,000 meeting but the truth is that in recent years quite a bit more money has been shelled out on the evening.

The £1,000 prize fund is based on a two heat/consolation/final/Accumulator/DD format but the last several meetings have seen additional heats and/or consolations added and for every race we add another £100 is ADDED to the fund.

Additionally in recent years with so much top tin and top paint we have had to make more cash awards available to reward as many drivers as possible.

So in short, the more cars, the more material and more effort, the more money up for grabs on the night. Here is the break down of how the money is divided.

All heats, consolation and Accumulator
1st: £40 and trophy, 2nd: £20, 3rd: £10, 4th £5
Top entertainer: £25 and trophy (top entertainers in heats and consolation also qualify for the final)

Suffolk Open Championship Final
1st: £80 and trophy, 2nd £40 and trophy, £20 and trophy 4th: £10
Top entertainer: £25 and trophy
£25 bonus to the first non-Granada to place

Destruction Derby
1st: £50 and trophy, 2nd :£25
Best wrecker: £25 and trophy

Nights most devastating driver: £50 and trophy
Nights hardest trier: £50 and trophy

Eight £25 cash prizes and trophies for best material and smart paint plus trophies for any other drivers with material and smart cars
