This years is about a month away. The P5 hearse turned out to be Matt Godden's,not been raced yet and will undoubtably be rumoured to be out at this years. The roller hearse which was rumoured for last year never turned up and still hasnt been raced. Can't see the roller racing this year.

Rumours of James Ellis having a Mk1 Coupe limo for this which cost him £1000!!!!! Was told back in February at the same time as i was told about his 3 pre war cars (2 of which are true,1 unknown) would certainly be a hard car to beat for best car.

60 cars booked in so far including a large amount of midlands drivers - Stu Holdsworth in a P5 for one.

TSB rumoured to be doing this instead of Buxton which cant be a bad addition. The Mob are another rumoured team although they were rumoured to be doing in last year,3 of them in mk1 coupes.

Surely the Levellers will get these 12 yanks finally raced at this one? Laughing

Laughing Dave said 12 for Hedno teams i'm sure scratch either way i hear there all massive caddy hearses.

W.I boys are supposed to be well tooled up for this as well, they took 5 rover P4's last year. Seen the Undertaker has a RHD Chrylser Valiant which is a lot smaller in comparison to others i've seen but still looks cool - not sure where its for but with the Suffolk open coming up it wouldn't surprise me to see it there.

Pikey is taking the Crown Estate that he had on his hi-ab at Arena world final last year apparently.

Martin Stopher,Lester Freestone,a good number of Preds (8 i think),the Gypsy Crew,Duane Collings from United all been mentioned to me as on the list.

Introduction

The Suffolk Open Championship is one of just two meetings of the season at Mildenhall for unlimited bangers and with big cars and big money on the card this one usually produces big action as well.

The reputation of the Suffolk Open has grown and grown tremendously over recent years and not only did the 2008 event attract the biggest field of unlimited bangers seen anywhere in the sport last season but many fans called it the best banger meeting of the year, anywhere in Europe.

One of the reasons the meeting has become so popular with fans and drivers is because of the high levels of superb material which usually competes at the meeting and we are delighted to hear that many drivers are planning to turn out something special for the occasion.

Another reason why this event is so popular is because of the amazing support of the drivers. Many of the RDC regulars are not regulars in this format but every year they excel in finding a suitable car for the big night and the combination of them, the more experienced unlimited banger racers at RDC and many visiting drivers makes for an explosive combination on the night.

The Suffolk Open also boasts a very unusual prize fund. The £1,000 up for grabs is impressive enough but there is almost always more money on offer as the more cars we have and the more races we run then the more cash that is added to the pot. Also the money is spread very thinly over the programme in order to give as many drivers as possible a reward for their efforts and to ensure there is not too much focus on winning the prize money meaning the drivers are freer to get stuck in and put on a great display for the fans.

Entry List

This is probably the most important part of this page, the entry list for the unlimited banger Suffolk Open Championship which is growing steadily all the time and once again has the makings of an impressive entry.

Once again we are adopting an 'old skool' approach to the list by only printing the drivers who have booked and not the cars they plan to race so hopefully we'll have some nice surprises on the night with plenty of tasty tin being promised and one or two very special cars in the pipeline as well if all goes to plan. The latest bookings are shown in bold. The list was last updated on June 17

A reminder to all drivers that the new rules regarding unlimited bangers outlaw the majority of front wheel drive cars. Yanks are ok but any typical 2litre banger (Mondeos, Cavaliers, Bluebirds, Vectras, Calibras, Carinas etc are not). If you are unsure please check and remember the smallest car allowed is a Triumph 2000.

Prize Money

Once again the unlimited banger Suffolk Open Championship carries a very large prize money pot. The event is advertised as a £1,000 meeting but the truth is that in recent years quite a bit more money has been shelled out on the evening.

The £1,000 prize fund is based on a two heat/consolation/final/Accumulator/DD format but the last several meetings have seen additional heats and/or consolations added and for every race we add another £100 is ADDED to the fund.

Additionally in recent years with so much top tin and top paint we have had to make more cash awards available to reward as many drivers as possible.

So in short, the more cars, the more material, the more effort, the more money up for grabs on the night. Here is the break down of how the money is divided.

All heats, consolation and Accumulator
1st: £40 and trophy, 2nd: £20, 3rd: £10, 4th £5
Top entertainer: £25 and trophy (top entertainers in heats and consolation also qualify for the final)

Suffolk Open Championship Final
1st: £80 and trophy, 2nd £40 and trophy, £20 and trophy 4th: £10
Top entertainer: £25 and trophy
£25 bonus to the first non-Granada or Volvo saloon or estate to place

Destruction Derby
1st: £50 and trophy, 2nd :£25
Best wrecker: £25 and trophy

Nights most devastating driver: £50 and trophy
Nights hardest trier: £50 and trophy

Eight £25 cash prizes and trophies for best material and smart paint plus trophies for any other drivers with material and smart cars

The Undertaker's Chrysler is for the Suffolk Open and the rest of the W.I boys are rumoured to have a Rover or two again. 7 of them doing it but i know they aint all got Rovers.

Sounds as if the mob's going as Pedro been saying he'll be at Mildo then Buxton (May have to see if there's any space in the Mob's cavalry to go up to Buxton??? Razz) Last year they were rumoured to be taking 3 coupes,Grumpy's raced his,Daryl's out but Pedro still hasn't raced his, perhaps this year?

I'd put money on TSB being there this year, more and more people saying it. Thinking back to Icebreaker,a member of the team was telling me how they wanted to take a good number down (sure he said anything up to 12)
