PostSubject: Re: TSR world final   Sat Jul 18, 2009 2:52 pm

All roads head to the Norfolk Arena this Saturday 18th July when the 2L Banger World Final heads an action packed night of entertainment.

The 22nd staging of this event is now fully booked with around 120 bangers expected to be in action with racing also coming from the 2L Stock Cars of which more than 30 are booked in to race and the Lady Bangfers.

1 Chris Walden will defend the world title which he won at the Norfolk Arena last year durig a purple patch whichalso saw him win the BBA English at Mildenhall and the Crash Attack Final at Skegness.

The meeting wil see the TSR qualifiers start on rows 1 3 5 7 9 etc and the vistor qualifiers start on rows 2 4 6 8 10 etc. The TSR qualifiers strart in points order with visitors dwawing for grid positions.

There will also be 2 last chance races where the top 2 in each will qualify at the back of the grid.

In all there will be minimum of 6 2L Banger races together with a Destruction Derby whilst there will also be three 2L Stock Car races and three lady banger races.

Further information on this event including a full preview of the drivers taking part and full list of drivers booked to race appears by clicking the links alongside.

The 2L Banger Shale World Final is now our biggest 2 Litre Banger bash of the year, Since adopting the 2 Litre format for the TSR World Final a few years ago, this event has grown in stature with each annual running as we have successfully attracted more visiting seeded entries and a higher calibre of drivers to the event. The 2 Litre Banger scene as a whole at TSR has taken giant steps forward in 2009 with 70 car turnouts now being the norm here and with this, we also expect the World Final meeting to step forward from the 95 car entry in 2008 to something on the high side of 100 cars with the event currently fully booked with 120 confirmed entries.

The drivers in the main race are all detailed elsewhere, but on top of this we are expecting something like 70 cars for the two last-chance qualifying events. The competition to qualify for the World Final this year has been intense and so there are some very capable TSR drivers who will be out in the last-chance races, 88 Ashley Burton, 311 Garry Lown, 349 Michael Allard and 119 Davey Cox springing instantly to mind. On top of this, there are some exceptionally strong visiting entries for the last-chance events too with RDC fielding drivers such as 425 Martin Stopher, 20 Baldy and 17 Kyle Overy who will no doubt be making a big impact on the local Banger scene in the coming months. Spedeworth will have top-flight regulars 730 Deano, 247 Bro and 741 Captain D in the support races as well so there’s no doubting that these opening events of the night will be quality events too. The phrase ‘support-races’ doesn’t really do justice to what these events may turn out to be. Add a sprinkling of pink cars, some Gladiators and plenty of other individual drivers and you soon get the picture.

With over 30 2L Stock Cars also expected to be in action together with the highly entertaining Lady Bangers, it promises to be a night of excitement not to be missed!

PostSubject: Re: TSR world final   Sat Jul 18, 2009 3:02 pm

Autospeed

190 Pikey will be in action for Autospeed on Saturday

One of the quality additions to the 2008 TSR World Final was the presence of 190 Pikey who returns for his second shot at the 2 Litre Shale World Final this year. The Midnight Runner needs little introduction having stunned people at the Ipswich World Final last year with one of the most detailed Granada builds ever seen and he can race or wreck too, as well as turning out a good car. He is without doubt a contender in this race and with 239 Nemesis joining him as the second Autospeed seed, the quality of the visitors from the South West just gets better and better.

Brampton

Brampton are reported to have selected their seeds for this years race by staging a lottery draw! Incredibly, both of the names that came out of the hat have pink connections with 04 Mick Crofts and 551 Danny Blackwell being the lucky winners. Neither of them are likely to win the race and in all honesty, neither of them would be likely to claim that this was their aim, but the race will provide a great opportunity to stage a big crash and provide excellent experience for both.

Brampton young gun 551 Danny Blackwell will be looking to impress in his first ever WF

Bristol

It’s a few years since the Mendips raceway fielded any entries to a TSR World Final so it is very pleasing to have two drivers for the race this year and there is no doubt that we have two of the stars of their promotion. 198 Marcus Goldsmith has been around for a good number of years and has raced at TSR World Finals when the format was still Unlimited and the venue was Swaffham. He still plies his trade in the colours of the Wacky Racers, a team where sadly most of the drivers are now inactive. Joining him is 363 Trummer who has continually risen in my personal estimations over the last couple of years. Every time I see him race, he always delivers a quality performance with rapid driving and well-judged hits. Both should go well.

Buxton

Making his TSR World Final debut for Buxton Raceway is 261 Dom Davies. Dom is a prime example of a driver who was brought into the sport by a Rookie Banger formula but has then progressed onto National Bangers and has begun to travel around a bit, including taking a race victory at a Skegness Crashattack meeting. He has some shale experience gained at Belle Vue and so won’t be completely out of his depth here although a good result in the race really would be a major achievement.

GMP

The GMP entries for the 2009 World Final bring the third and fourth Stinkbridge drivers onto the grid in the form of 450 Glyn Platts and 455 Ricki Finney. Both are seasoned crashing talents but their performances here at Easter indicated very clearly that they are more than capable of bringing a racing head to the Norfolk Arena. If either of them get a favourable grid position from the draw, then there is every likelihood that they will convert this into a result.

455 Ricki Finney is no slouch around the Norfolk Arena

Henham

Because the TSR World Final is not a BBA Event, it means that it can be a truly open race and Henham is the second independent track to send a driver for the event. Their chosen entry is 527 Andy Ashman, better known to some as 197 which is the number he has raced under at RDC in the Lean Team colours. Having raced both dirt and shale for several years, the Lynn surface won’t be a challenge to Andy but it remains to be seen whether he can beat the rest of the traffic in this race.

Incarace

King’s Lynn has seen regular visiting interest from Incarace throughout 2009 and it is fitting that two of the drivers that have supported King’s Lynn well have been selected by their promotion to take part in this race. 128 Mark Atkins is a rising star of the sport and has picked up some good results in 2 Litre Bangers already here this year which is a sign that he may have plenty to offer this race too. 170 Darren Teal is often seen in the Motley Krew colours as well as racing for the Northampton Nutters and has been here on plenty of occasions, his 2009 high point being a stunning but sadly short-lived Cortina which he brought to the rear wheel drive bash earlier in the year.

Impressive incarace Young Gun 128 Mark Atkins will be a major threat

Nutts Corner

Another first for 2009 is the inclusion of some Irish Interest which is the first time since the 2 Litre format was adopted. 173 Steve Reynolds needs no introduction having raced at most of the major Championships in recent seasons and also being renowned as the man with many Toyota Crown Hearses. He is joined for the Nutts Corner track by 279 Barry Hennessey.

173 Steve Reynolds always goes well here

PRI

Despite staying away for most of 2008, the Gladiators are once again part of the fixtures and fittings at Arena Essex this year and it is two of the team who represent the promotion in the main race today. 432 Mark Munson has consistently shown good form away from Arena in the last 18 months and is a good choice for one of the places today whilst 549 Phil Smith is a proven performer here having won Unlimited Banger races last year. The switch to front wheel drive should make the job easier so we will see how these two get on in the main race.

432 MArk Munson represents the lively Gladiators and PRI

RDC

Down at Mildenhall and Dover, the racing is always pretty hectic and because of this, the successful drivers in their points can change quite quickly. Some of the seeds for the big race this year aren’t the regulars we have seen from RDC in the past which injects some real interest into the race. 64 Barry The Bull makes his TSR World debut as does 81 Lee Greenwood whilst returning for another go are the rated 188 Victor and 465 Andy Scarlett. To be at the top of the points at RDC is no easy task so none of these four drivers should be overlooked.

If he gets a good grid position Supreme Champion 188 Victor will have a good chance of going gold

Startrax

Representing the Sheffield and Belle Vue promotion this year are 123 Paul and 321 Richard Manning. Being shale venues, the Lynn circuit should be a welcome challenge as the surface is familiar but we don’t have the fence posts to worry about!! I must confess to knowing little about these two but welcome them to the Norfolk Arena and wish them the best of luck in the race.

Spedeworth

Representing the big S! in the 2009 World Final are two of the top Spedeworth Anglians in 439 Danny Sutton and 516 Carl Gould. Gouldy won the Spedeworth points in 2008 which was a huge achievement against the ranks of the Southern-based drivers whilst Sutton has been winning the hearts of many fans with some stunning material over the last 12months, his Mk1 Granada at Ipswich World Final being a real stunner whilst his Hednesford Pre 68 Westy was just amazing. Both are a big threat here, as they will be perfectly at home amongst the rest of the drivers in the main race.

PostSubject: Re: TSR world final   Sat Jul 18, 2009 3:02 pm

TSR

338 Terry Garrod

Terry has impressed as one of the rising crop of drivers who came over to TSR at the start of this season and has shown himself capable of wrecking or racing should the mood arise. A superb feature race victory at the last World Qualifier elevated Wingnut to pole position in the big race and Terry will no doubt be looking to leave his mark as he tries to take the title by leading from the front once the green flag drops. The whole Garrod family live for their racing and a victory for Terry in his first ever big race would be fantastic for them all. Terry’s lack of big race experience could count against him in this one though and although he will have a great chance of taking the flag today, if he doesn’t he is most certainly one for the future!

1 Chris Walden

Chris Walden’s success last year saw him become the first home driver to win the world final since it reverted to a 2L format four years ago. Wally’s 2009 victory came on the back of a purple patch where his dedication and undoubted talent was matched with a bevy of silverware as he took the BBA British at Milldenhall, Crashattack at Skeg and World within a matter of weeks. Walden is no stranger to the Norfolk Arena Shale having won the TSR National Points for the last five years and he is currently looking for his fourth consecutive Lynn points title in 09 although he currently has a big battle to retain the silver. Despite Walden’s impressive points total in 09 one slight worry for the Wally fans will be his failure to take a chequered flag at Lynn so far in 2009 although today would represent a great way to break his 2009 chequered flag duck as he aims to become the first driver to successfully defend the world title in its twenty three year history.

673 Darren Fendley

Darren Fendley produced one of the drives of last year’s world final when he came through from towards the back of the pack to be in a rostrum place for much of the race only to lose out and finish fourth in the closing stages which was still a great result. Starting much closer to the front for his 2009 shot at the title Darren will have an excellent chance of going for gold as he is one of the quickest cars around the Norfolk Arena. Darren also always turns out a very smart car and expect his world car to be of a high standard. Having started off in the TSR Bangers Darren has now established himself as one of East Anglia’s top stars particularly on shale and goes well both here and down at Mildenhall.

132 Robert James

Bobbles is another of the highly rated drivers who have emerged at TSR in 2009. Unlike some of the other new names though, Robert was not an established driver at his old promotion but this year has seen some fantastic performances from the Cambridgeshire Young Gun who has shown a willingness to compete in anything and everything that goes on here at the Norfolk Arena and whether he has been in a 2L Banger, an Unlimited, on the figure of 8 in a big van or a Reliant Robin he has made his mark whenever he has appeared and a high grid position in the 2009 world is a just reward for his efforts and the skill he has displayed on track.

85 James Ellis

James made an immediate impact when he moved to TSR and a series of highly rated performances have firmly established him as the man to beat here in 2009 as he has rocketed to the top of the Track Championship and the Entertainer League. James has had a very busy season in addition to racing at every King’s Lynn he has also been in action all over the UK and beyond –six days ago he was having fun smashing up continential names in Belgium! If there has been any disappointment for James it will be his form in the 2L Bangers this year where he has struggled to get anywhere in the results – indeed had it not been for the Unlimited Bandit counting as a world qualifier where Ellis won the final he would have probably struggled to make the world grid! No doubt James will be looking to put his 2L Banger Gremlins to rest today and taking the chequered flag in the world would crown an exceptional 09 campaign as well as making some amends for when he came close to winning the title here two years ago.

515 Gareth Flatters

Flats has been around the TSR Banger circuit for many years. His commitment to racing is second to none and he will be pulling out all of the stops to take the big win here today. Flats already has one title to his credit in 2009 when he won the White & Yellow Final back in May with one of his customary great performances. Whatever happens today and whether he goes for the win or goes for a crash you can guarantee that Flats will enjoy himself! More than capable of living with the best around here although he may not be on everyone’s short list for the title, any of his rivals who write off his chances will be doing so at their peril!

337 Ashley Garrod

The second member of the Garrod family to make the grid, this will be the second time that Ashley has qualified for the big race having made his debut last year with a credible performance running with the front men until a flat tyre robbed his chance of a podium finish when well placed. Ashley is no stranger to going the quick way around the Norfolk Arena and like bother Terry his place on the grid is largely as a result of a final win at a qualifier which in Ashley’s case came early in the year at the Commentator’s Cup which also saw Ashley promoted to superstar for the first time in his career. A dry spell has seen Ashley slip back down the grades but if this likable young man is firing on all cylinders expect him to be up there challenging with the best!

788 Dan Burton

Normally it is Ace Ash of the Northants Burton brother duo who grabs the headlines around the Norfolk Arena – this year though it is the hugely enthusiastic and highly likeable Dan who will be taking his place on the world final grid whilst the highly talented Ash is relegated to try and get a place on the world grid through the last chance race. 2009 has been Dan’s most prolific to date as a more aggressive approach to racing has reaped dividends with some great performances being crowned with an appearance on the big grid today. As well as getting some great results, Dan has also been in the wars here this year with one incident seeing him rollover and the roof of his car smashing into the Armco in a scary manouvere. No doubt Dan will be keen to avoid a repeat of that today and will be looking to get a solid top ten finish which he is more than capable of today.

233 Robert Aldridge

Robert has made more appearances than we have seen for a while in 2009 and some good performances have seen him qualify for another world final. Whilst brother Scott pursues a successful career in the 2L Stock Cars, despite dabbling in other formulas, Rob has always returned to his first and biggest love which is full contact banger racing. Although he has not taken a win at King’s Lynn yet this year, Rob always seems to be in the results somewhere and this consistency should see him finish the world final in a top ten place. Another driver who puts a lot into his racing and whatever happens today will finish the day with a big smile!

160 Shane Winsor

In addition to Walden, Shane Winsor is the only driver on the grid who has already qualified who is a past winner of the Trackstar World. It was twenty years ago back in 1989 when a young(er!) Winsor won the world ahead of 040 John Ashton and 49 Tim Horne when the race took place in its Unlimited guise. Even before taking the title Shane was one of the top banger drivers and since then he has moved on yet further to be one of the very top drivers in the sport despite taking a sabbatical away from bangers for a number of years a while ago. 2009 has seen Shane commit to racing in a big way and he has missed very few meetings here at the Norfolk Arena. Doing several meetings combined with his natural driving ability meant that it would be a virtual foregone conclusion that he would qualify for the world final and he has comfortably done that. Will he secure world final victory number 2 twenty years after his inaugural one? We will find out shortly!

385 Roy Gedge

Roy Boy has been one of Trackstar’s top drivers for several years who has shown loyalty to the promotion and King’s Lynn through all the ups and downs of his racing career. Roy is another driver who races everything and anything here at King’s Lynn and has also put in performances around the country which have seen him become one of the UK’s most rated stars. Roy started last year’s world final on pole and led the world final for a number of nail biting laps. He will have less pressure on him today and as a driver who knows the quick way around King’s Lynn it would not be a surprise to see him troubling the front runners particularly if there are fireworks up front. Roy has been seen in action in a 1300 Stock Car recently – at the Bandit Memorial he was kept busy when he raced a 2L Banger, an Unlimited Banger and a 1300 Stock Car. Whilst it is rumoured he will be moving into the 1300 Stock Cars full time next season, it is to be hoped that it will not be the end of Roy Boy in Bangers as the world of banger racing would be much poorer place without 385 on track.

269 Greg Mulligan

It is great to see a representative of the fantastic Wild Boys Team on the grid in this year’s world final. Along with prolific team members 225 Bully & 215 Young Bully & 149 Wayne, Greg has made a tremendous impact on banger racing on the Norfolk Arena in 2009. Despite living in on the Yorks / Notts border, Greg and the rest of the team travel thousands of miles a year to race at the Norfolk Arena where they are a part of the fixtures and fittings and the performances they have given would see them in with a shout as Trackstar’s top banger Team of 09. Greg is a driver who epitomises what the team is about. He has shown on many occasions that he can race or crash depending on how the mood takes him. Whatever happens on track, he has a smile on his face, gets back to the pits and does whatever he can to get the car back out on track. It will be a tall order for Greg to win from so far back but you can bet your bottom dollar that in one way or another Greg will have some influence in what happens in World Final 09!

238 Graham Garrod

Whilst all the youngsters in the Garrod family may have been grabbing the headlines, 238 Graham Garrod has also taken the opportunity on several occasions to put in a performance that shows there is no substitute for maturity and experience. Graham had a few years in the TSR Bangers recently and 2009 saw him back in full contact bangers where he has put in some A1 performances which have helped to put him in the 2009 World Final. A great all round performer, Graham will relish the opportunity to be in this year’s world final and showing what he can do!

285 Sean Dyer

Mr Misery has been involved in the wars since joining TSR in 2009 being on the receiving end of several big hits including a monster t bone at the rear wheel drive meeting back in April. Whatever has happened, Sean has always bounced back well and justifiably qualifies for the world at his first serious attempt although it was touch and go whether he would make the grid as he entered the final race of the qualifying process needing a good result. Over 40 cars on track meant that it would be a tough order but Mr Misery once again displayed his resolve to go out and guarantee his place by taking the chequered flag.

791 Nicky Young

Spud missed the first couple of months of the season after suffering an injury whilst working on his road car. It looked as if the time off would scupper his plans for a successful 09 campaign but when he returned, Nicky showed no signs of the serious injuries he had suffered and since he came back he has been enjoying his best season ever with rated display after rated display and these performances have seen him edge his way into the world grid. Spud has also started to creep up the entertainers league and track championship and is looking like having plenty more to offer throughout the rest of 09!

675 Ian Fendley

Another driver who will be keen to show the younger ones how to do it. Ian came out for a bit of fun at one of the early season qualifiers where he was in great form with a third place in the final crowning off a good night and putting him up the chart for the world qualifiers. Following that Ian decided he wanted to have a crack and making the grid and did the rest of the qualifiers where he got enough points together to make the grid and with son Darren further up the grid will be looking forward to competing as the grid’s only father and son pairing.

60 Kyle Stevenson

The hard working Common Crushers team have been racing at King’s Lynn in various guises for several years. Like the Wild Boyz, these lads put in a great deal of commitment putting in many miles to race here and also turning out very smart machinery. Whilst some of the more senior members of the team have slowed down a little in recent years, several exciting newcomers have burst through the ranks and Shaky is a prime example of one of these. Kyle always puts in an enthusiastic and rated display and is likely to be one of those who goes out to liven up what happens on track today. He has been one of the stars of the Norfolk Arena in 2009 and his debut in the big race will be looked forward to by many.

572 Paul Scully

Paul and father Martin are one of the most rated father and son duos on the national scene. These are real old school drivers who go out with the express aim of having fun and whatever happens on track they can be guaranteed to be leaving it with a smile and working overtime in the pits to get even the biggest wreck back out on track! Squirt likes to crash with the best and has taken on many drivers around the Norfolk Arena in 2009. When the mood takes him to can also race with the best and won the opening final at new Nutts Corner shaleway recently which was a fantastic result.
