The Reserves

A closer look at the list of drivers booked in for the supporting cast at this meeting will shown a number of them are reserves for the BBA Supreme Championship (highlighted by a *). However owing to the unique qualifying format of this race we have added the following information below explaining how these drivers may be able to get into the race as unlike many other championship events it is not as simple as one driver doesn't turn up and is replaced by a reserve.

Additionally we are still without a seeded entry from GMP, Mendips, CAMSO and Startrax and these may be added from the support entry on the night.

Driver Explanation
285 Sean Dyer (RDC) Reserve via European Championship
Should 45, 86 or 206 not attend he will take their place
385 Roy Gedge (TSR) Reserve via 2Litre World Final
Should 66, 67 or 223 not attend he will take their place
451 Willy Blackwell (GMP) Reserve via the King of the Peak
Should two of the following drivers (218, 318, 407 and 742) fail to attend he will compete
742 Ian Gregory (GMP) Reserve via the King of the Peak
Should 218, 318 or 407 not attend he will take their place

Driver preview

As is usually the case, the potential starting grid for the National Banger BBA Supreme Championship screams of quality, both with existing champions and rising stars eager to make an impact and win what is rapidly becoming recognised as one of the biggest titles in the sport.

Just to underline the quality of this years race, among those who have confirmed their intention to race are…

Four current world champions and three former world champions
Nine current points champions and five former points champions
The current British, Supreme, Masters, BBA English, Champion of Champions and Thunderbolt Champion
Plus four former British champs, three former Supreme champs, two former Masters champions, two former Champion of Champions winners and drivers who have won the National, European, Scottish, King of the Peak, Blockbuster and Thunderbolt titles.

Here is a closer look at the contenders who are expected on April 5

8 Darren Owen
Deadly Daz is one of the sports longest serving racers and despite work commitments restricting his on track appearances these days a decent fifth in the Terminator at Belle Vue has secured him a debut outing in the Supreme final. No stranger to Mildenhall having regularly visited for the pre 70 meeting and a driver who loves the shale, regularly racing at Coventry and winning there on more than one occasion. Also made a few trips to King's Lynn last year and of course his trip to Manchester for the Terminator. With lots of experience on his side he should not be overlooked on the list of contenders here and could easily make a challenge for a strong finish with a bit of luck.

11 Darren Race
The first of the Stinkbridge drivers on the list for the big race. With the potential of up to six Stinkbridge drivers ultimately being in the race, the team is bound to play a big role. While few would expect them to challenge for the title they are bound to spoil the hopes of some along the way. Perhaps their most high profile battle here is with the Midnight Runners as there tends to be fireworks whenever these two super powers cross paths. Racey booked his spot with a fine second in the Terminator in one of his favoured Mondeo estates which he started using more and more regularly last season often with decent results including a rare race win at the Crash Attack UK Open at Skegness in 2006.

22 Dave Vincent
A man who needs no introduction to the RDC scene and a huge name on the national front as well as for over a decade he has been rated as one of RDC's finest and continued to make history by being the only man to compete in every Supreme Championship to date. 2007 started well on the championship front for Vincent, finishing third in the Supreme last year followed by a fine second in the World Cup at Cowdenbeath. However the former Spedeworth World, British, National, Champion of Champions, Masters, RDC Points and multiple track champion ended 2007 without a points crown, his only major title being successfully defending the Accumulator crown in October. Last year was the fourth time he has been on the podium in the Supreme, his best finish a second in 2001 and this is one of the few titles he has left to win. Will start as just a big a threat as he ever has done and the lack of a championship roof on his car at present could make him even hungrier than ever.

37 Dave Lewis
Criminally underrated on the RDC scene, 2007 was another fine year for local man 37 Dave Lewis. He made up for his disappointment in the 2006 TSR World Final by winning the 1600cc National title at Lynn last November to go alongside his small car series crown at Mildenhall and a top three finish in the track championship. A strong finish in the BBA British puts him on the grid here and it would be foolish to bet against this Mildenhall expert who is more than capable of upsetting the form book and making many of the sports biggest names sit up and take notice. A race winning in a highly destructive Accumulator qualifier on Good Friday underlines his current form and he could be a most decent bet.

45 Anthony Crowshaw
The European Championship at Warneton has been kind to Lips in recent memory, winning the title race a few years back and finishing a fine second last year to secure a return to the Supreme Championship grid. A seasoned campaigner with many years of experience who grew up on the dirt at Paices Hill/Aldermaston which should help him on the shale here although the truth is he is still without a good result at Mildenhall. If he is given the right breaks though he could be a danger and could also be a lively customer should things not go to plan.

53 Dave Palmer
Not for the first time Palmer books his place on the starting grid as RDC's seeded entry having finished fourth in the National Points last year following another strong season at Dover where he finished second in the track championship. Helped the Condoms enjoyed team championship success at Arena and Ipswich in 2007 and had some lively team meetings last season battling the Dover Boys and Six Bolt contingents at the RDC team meetings. Is likely to be concentrating on trying to get a good finish here as he is still yet to secure a podium finish in this one and despite not having the standard of Mildenhall form he enjoyed a few years ago, this year could boast a better chance than normal. Like many of the RDC drivers in the race, the more drivers on the grid, the more the race will suit them as it's likely to be a chaotic affair and survival is one of their best strengths and this certainly applies to Palmer. Should he last the race, expect him to be near the front.

54 Richard Hayward
The last couple of seasons have really seen the star of Incarace young gun Bandit rise tremendously, leading to a fine second in the points at the Midlands promotion in 2007 which results in him being their seeded entry for this race. Lifted the Spring Classic and DH Video Open over the last couple of years and entered a splendid performance at the Champion of Champions in 2006 where he qualified on the night and recorded a podium finish from the back. Started the season in style by leading his troops to victory in the Civil War but this is not only his debut in this race but also his track debut. Has some degree of shale experience with a couple of visits to Coventry although he could find the going tough here. Would surely consider a top 10 finish a success and has the ability to inject some action into this one but a good showing here would certainly assist his climb to stardom.

58 Martin Dalton
One of the top men at Mendips for many, many years who has won their points and team title on more than one occasion and in recent memory has represented the raceway in many of the sports premier events. However his Mildenhall and shale form in general is very limited which could hinder his chances somewhat. Will need to use all of his experience here to register a good finish and will be hoping to learn as much as he can from his Easter trip to West Row to get him off to a decent footing. Should he be able to survive what will surely be a frantic opening few laps he could make an impression on the front runners.

66 Dave Spooner
One of the true characters of the sport and one of the leading names on the west country scene is looking forward to a busy couple of weeks of travelling as he is set to make his Mildenhall track debut on Good Friday, followed by a return trip for this two weeks later and then a trip to Warneton for the UK v Europe team event. 2007 was a great year for the chief Renegade as he won the Autospeed points crown and finished a fantastic fourth in the 2Litre World Final at Hednesford. There was a time when Spoons was known mainly for the rotten luck he would experience but as he proved at Hednesford in October he is more than capable of a good result when his luck is in. A lack of Mildenhall and shale experience means he may not start as a favourite but that could work in his favour, easing the pressure a little bit as he is likely to perform in one way or another on the day.

67 Mark Whittaker
It has been said before but since Sparky switched from RDC to Buxton he has enjoyed a great run, winning the points title at the track two years running and lifting many of the venue's domestic titles as well as it's biggest championship, the King of the Peak in 2006. Also lifted the Scottish in the same year although it was a strong third place in the 2litre World at Hednesford which secured another Supreme Championship outing. Sparky made a few trips to Mildenhall in 2007 including an unforgettable showing at the unlimited van bash in May in his unstoppable EA before he made a big impact in the British, ending the podium chances of 85 James Ellis with an almighty head-on. Keep an eye on these two in this race as we could see another chapter of their feud here but if Sparky gets a clear run there is no reason why he couldn't be a contender for the title.

85 James Ellis
2007 was an incredible year for the RDC young gun who had his best season to date and a excellent fifth in the RDC points saw him represent the promotion in the Wimbledon World which was a great achievement. However his best championship results came away from home, finishing fourth in the European at Warneton and second in the TSR World having looked as though he had at first won the latter event. Another driver who will thrive on a packed grid and an action packed race which will be right up his street and the more chaos, the better his chances of impressing in this one. Would certainly have added a British podium to his 2007 success had it not been for the aforementioned head-on from Sparky so expect fireworks if these two cross paths once more.

119 Davey Cox
Another of RDC's finest whose CV makes for impressive reading being a former British and multiple World Champion as well as winning this race in 2004 after coming so close to the title in 2003. Booked his place in this year's event with a strong fifth in the controversial PRI World Final and ended the season on a real high with a fantastic fourth in the Wimbledon World, from 42nd on the grid and without the aid of a race stoppage. Always a contender at Mildenhall although he is often hampered by bad luck on the big occasions and so he will be determined to avoid any such problems here and if he goes all the way he is bound to be a serious contender when the dust settles.

131 Barry Wade
The former British Champion has had some good form in the Supreme Championship in recent years, taking fourth last year and he was the runner up in 2005. Last year was a mixed bag for Wadey who spent most of his meetings on Spedeworth soil where he often had rotten luck although he was fortunate to secure a last gasp place in the Wimbledon World marking his second appearance in the race in as many years. However his few Mildenhall meetings often were rewarded with success as he always seems to go well on the shale. Another driver who will benefit from an action packed affair here as straight up speed is not his strength. Instead Wadey's strength is staying out of trouble and remaining consistent while making the most of everyone else's mistakes. Should he stay trouble free and go the distance it would be no surprise to see him on the podium again.

143 Sam Begley
Now joining the grid to represent Buxton as their seeded entry having held a license with the track as well as his RDC license for a couple of years, Screamer is another lively customer set to inject some action into the event. With increasingly strong links to Stinkbridge, don't be surprised to see him fight their corner and give them additional strength on the grid. Joined us on Good Friday but was racing for Crash Zone where he was as lively as ever and the smart money predicts more of the same from the former Reliant Robin world champion.

148 Ian Redden
2007 was a tremendous season for 2006 Masters Champion Shorty who improved on his great year in 2005 to finish third in the RDC points, his all time best, and represent RDC in many of the sports championship races including a debut in the Wimbledon World which was sadly a short lived affair. His 2007 Supreme outing was also short lived when he fell foul of a revenge seeking Dave Vincent but bounced back for an excellent fourth in the British to secure a place here and he followed it up with a ninth in the 2Litre World Final. Another RDC driver who will benefit from a packed grid and loads of action as Shorty's strength is surviving the chaos of a typical Mildenhall banger race and finishing strong while he sometimes struggles when the race winner is simply determined by the fastest car. Has started the year well with a top 10 in the unlimited Heartbreaker and second in the unlimited East Anglian, again highlighting his form in blood baths, and it would be no surprise to see that continue here.

188 Matt Fuller
The reigning and defending Supreme Champion would love nothing more than to retain the title in 2008 and hopefully get to bask in the glory of his achievement having missed out on the limelight in 2007 as he was only confirmed the winner, a couple of hours after the race was completed. Hopefully the introduction of electronic lap scoring will rule out any such mishaps this year and the reigning and two time 2litre World Champion will start as a big danger here. Also finished second in the PRI World Final to underline how tremendous 2007 was for Smoker and he also finished second in the PRI points. Was a double heat winner at the 2litre Heartbreaker in February and was in hard hitting form at the recent Shakedown. A big danger to become the second man to retain the title but also an accomplished wrecker who will battle hard with his Midnight Runner team mates should the need arise.

188 John Reeves
Victor makes his second straight Supreme Championship outing thanks to a very decent fifth in last year's race. Sadlyhad to sit most of 2007 out with an injury suffered at the Arena leg of the RDC v PRI head to head but returned in the summer for the remaining RDC team meetings where he battled hard against the Condoms, and marked his return with a killer wrecking display at the Kent team bash. Had a good run at Mildenhall over the winter, especially at the January meeting and already has a top 10 finish in the London Open to his credit this season. Yet another RDC racer who will be at home on the racing surface and against such a busy field of cars, this race is likely to play to his strengths and it would be no surprise to see him in the top six once again.

PostSubject: Re: Mildenhall supreme championship   Sat Apr 05, 2008 12:46 pm

190 Steve Bailey
Without doubt one of the biggest names in the west country at present and Pikey has been making more and more trips to Suffolk where he enjoys his meetings just as much as the fans enjoying seeing him. Had perhaps his best Mildenhall outing to date last July with a storming show at the unlimited Suffolk Open and was also in fine form at the 2litre team meeting in November. For many the former Autospeed points, Thunderbolt and Blockbuster champion is one of the stars of the year thus far with killer meetings at the Heavy Metal Classic, London Open and Heartbreaker but he is still without a major championship to his credit and would love nothing more than to start that collection here. A contender without a doubt but many predict another crashing display from this big hitter and it remains to be seen what role he and his new Midnight Runner team mates will play.

206 Dave King
The former Spedeworth points champion was left very disappointed last year when his car failed to run before the big race and he failed to make the grid all night. Have been making more regular trips to Mildenhall in recent memory and usually enjoys his trips and came close to winning the Suffolk Open last year. Truly one of the sports top entertainers for so many years and would be most deserving of winning this coveted crown although he may start the race as an outsider. Having said that a brutal, action packed race is likely to suit his style and don't be surprised if this survivor has something to say about the final outcome.

206 Phil Milner
There was no hiding the delight of the Gladiator young gun when he learned his fifth place finish in the European at Warneton had earned him a place in his maiden Supreme Championship, which will surely be his biggest race to date. Along with his team mates spent all of 2007 involved in the well documented war at PRI and was involved in the controversy at the Shakedown which looks likely to see the Gladiators travel much more in 2008 and it is speculated if he is joined by his running mates on April 5. However he will be the sole Gladiator in the big race where his chances aren't all that great to be honest but many will keep an eye to see what happens with Turkish on the same track as long running Gladiator enemy 348 Sonny Sherwood which is another source of action interest in this mouth watering event.

209 Gary Haresign
The Skegness seeded entry is one of the rising stars on the TSR and Skegness scene at present and one of their most dedicated performers. Was without a top 10 finish in a BBA event in 2007 but showed his ability at the Mildenhall opener where he was denied a heat win with a last bend challenge by 125 Lee Overy. Will be looking forward to his debut in this race which must surely rate as one of his biggest races to date and should treat this as a learning curve. However with a pinch of luck there is no reason why he couldn't score a top 10 at the end of the day, something he would be rightly proud off.

223 Brett Harrison
One of the top up and coming stars on the Incarace scene, 2007 was a strong season for this young gun who won the track championship at Birmingham and registered a fine second in the 2litre World Final to book his maiden Supreme Championship appearance. No stranger to the big race environment now and competing against the best he underlined his talent with a fine eighth in the Wimbledon World. Remains to be seen how he copes with the loose stuff on his Mildenhall debut but he is usually a quick learner and if he can get his head around the raceway in the first few laps there is no reason why he cannot challenge for a decent placing.

239 Steve Carter
One of the top young guns in the west country at present, Nemesis enjoyed a blinder at this meeting last year where he almost won the destructive Allcomers which nearly went to the last car. This year a decent finish in the Autospeed World Final puts him in the big race and he will no doubt relish the challenge it presents. A lack of shale and Mildenhall form could hinder his chances of a podium finish but his is a gutsy and determined racer who is usually quick and went well enough a year ago to suggest he is capable of a strong finish. Would probably love a repeat of the type of race the Allcomers was from last year.

242 Ricky Korpiela
Ever since joining the Midnight Runners, Korps' star has shone brighter than ever resulting in making the PRI World Final for the last two years running and making his well deserved Wimbledon World debut last year after a hard fought third in the PRI points for this long serving and dedicated racer. It was his PRI points place which sees him on this grid as the PRI seed as sadly his dedicated wasn't rewarded with a top finish in a BBA event last year, something he'll be eager to put right here. Another survivor who is bound to thrive in the big field of cars and the chaos that should go with it but watch out for him to get his hands dirty should the Midnight Runners be involved in any battles with their enemies here.

247 Lee Clarke
One of the true rising stars of the sport and one of Spedeworth's most under rated performers, perhaps because Bro is often wrongly overlooked by his regular team mates in the Damage Inc stable. Finished seventh in the Spedeworth points last year and represented the promotion in many championship events around the country including the BBA English at Skegness where a third place secured his starting place here although this was his only top 10 BBA title finish of the year. No stranger to Mildenhall and performing well on the shale, he could be a dark horse with a very decent chance of glory here although his undoing could be fighting a way through the busy track in one piece.

262 Buddy James
One of the biggest hitters from the west country although we haven't seen too much of him at Mildenhall recently. No one will forget his appearance at the 2006 unlimited Suffolk Open where his balls out blitz on 364 Sean Winchester was one of the hits of the night. Not just an out and out crasher but a driver as well and his second in the Thunderbolt last May puts him in the race tonight. Few will expect to see him concentrate on the title win but instead to continue his path of destruction tonight and it will be interesting to see if there is any more of his long running battle with Pikey in this race as their on track battles have provided many highlights on the Autospeed scene.

312 Tom Reynolds
There is no doubt that in recent memory Turbo has been one of the leading names on the TSR scene, winning the King's Lynn entertainer league in 2007 as well as third in the King's Lynn track championship. Made a big mark at Mildenhall at the British last July when his hit on 123 Lee Millhouse was one of the best of the night and the smart money would suggest he'll be more interested on entertaining in this one rather than chasing a title and that could mean bad news for at least one driver among the field.

331 Jason Jackson
Whatever your opinion of Boxer Jack is there is no denying he is one of the biggest stars in the sport at present. The reigning and three time PRI points champion made history in November by becoming the first man in 25 years to successfully retain the Wimbledon World title, an amazing achievement. His CV also includes winning the BBA English and winning the Supreme in 2005 as well as being on the podium in the British as well. Now also finding form in Lightning Rods but still very committed to bangers and he has been very busy thus far in 2008, although he seems to be presently too busy entertaining to have made much of an impact on the results front as was the case in the 2007 BBA events where the Wimbledon World was his only top 10. Of course it would have been double gold had he not been stopped in the closing laps of the PRI World Final by 113 Ian Beaumont and he would love nothing more than to recapture this title in 2008. Alternatively it could be a lively Mildenhall visit again for the Midnight Runners and should that be the case, expect him to rise to the challenge and he well involved on the action front.

348 Sonny Sherwood
Another driver who has been there, seen it all and done it all, a former 2litre World Champion, former three time British Champion, former PRI, Mildenhall and Spedeworth points champion and many, many other titles including winning the Supreme title in 2006. At one point it looked as though he had retained the title 12 months ago but a subsequent investigation revealed he was in fact second. Last season was amazingly a dry spell as far as title wins were concerned by given that he spent most of his weeks battling the Gladiators at Arena that was perhaps no surprise. However he was second in the Supreme and the British as well as sixth in the Wimbledon World, third in the Mildenhall track championship and fifth in the Spedeworth points. Bounced back to his championship winning ways in February by winning the unlimited Heartbreaker but had to settle for second in the Shakedown in March. Would love nothing more than to reclaim the Supreme this year but will he have one eye on the lone Gladiator set to join him on track.

349 Michael Allard
The former multiple Ministox champion returned to the banger scene with a bang in 2007 winning the pre 75 World title in May en route to a maiden outing in the Wimbledon World Final. Success in BBA events was limited to a tenth in the Ipswich Open before his 2007 season was tarnished by controversy at the ORC team meeting in November. Returned to action in March and as expected crossed paths with the Midnight Runners where despite trading big hits with Boxer Jack, he finished a fine second in the Ipswich Raid. A lack of recent Mildenhall appearances is unlikely to phase him, given how many times he's raced Ministox here and he looked very quick at King's Lynn in March. But with the Midnight Runners out in numbers, where will his priorities lie when the green flag falls.

361 Chris Walden
One of the biggest rising stars on the TSR scene, Wally emerged triumphant in the King's Lynn track championship in 2007 and is set to go onto even greater things this year. Qualified via a second in the BBA English at Skegness and is no stranger to racing on the shale or at Mildenhall and has many decent results to his credit. Still improving all the time and enjoyed a cracking debut in unlimited bangers at the Icebreaker in February where he was in full on crashing mode. Could be a dark horse for the podium should he get the breaks.

364 Sean Winchester
What an amazing season 2007 was for one of RDC's all time greats. Became the first man to ever retain the British title at Mildenhall, finally got his hands on the Masters title and completed the grand slam in the RDC points championships. But he is still without the Supreme title which will make him hungrier than ever to succeed here although the truth is he never seems to have the luck in this one and is still without a podium finish in this race. However don't forget his best British result was a tenth until he won in 2006 so his previous Supreme form is unlikely to worry him heading into this, instead it is more likely to motivate him and he will start as a big favourite for many. Boosting the confidence of the former three time Accumulator champion will be strong outing at the season opener where he placed in both his races and despite his winter break, looked as sharp as ever.

379 Adrian Clifton
The Worm's first season back with RDC was quite the memorable one which included competing in all six races in the RDC v PRI head to heads while he secured his maiden Supreme Championship start with a sixth in the Autospeed World Final. But perhaps his highlight is 2007 was his killer one man display against the Midnight Runners in the Wimbledon World which was followed by an equally lively display against PRI a week later at the ORC team championship. The smart money would suggest that with the Worm and the Runners on the same track, action is guaranteed and he is bound to be one to watch when this one gets underway.

399 Phil Cullen
Another of the sports rising stars to make his Supreme Final debut in 2008. The Frog booked his spot in the event with a seventh place finish in the PRI World and the former Midnight Runner has been in fine form in recent weeks with a pair of lively outings at Standlake in January and February. Not too accustomed to the Mildenhall shale yet but still likely to be one to keep an eye on as if he can stay away from trouble and establish a decent pace in the early going he could easily challenge for the spoils.

406 Chris Bridger
A strong finish in the Autospeed points race in 2007 sees the former Cornish Champion make his Supreme debut as the west country promotions seeded entry. However many would argue that he is most deserving of his place having been stripped of a podium finish in the 2litre world final for an illegal tyre. Will have his hands full with the unfamiliar Mildenhall shale and the big field of cars but he will thrive under the pressure as he has done in some of the biggest races in the sport around the country and should he manage to last the distance you would expect to see him inside the top 10.

407 Jason Mitchell
A second place finish for Wak in the King of the Peak books him a maiden outing in the Supreme Championship where is it quite likely he will form a strong Stinkbridge presence in the race which could see as many as six of the fearsome hard hitting team in the event. Unlikely to even entertain the thought of going for the title here, it should be action all the way for him which could spell disaster for anyone in his way.

439 Danny Sutton
The last year has really seen the star of the Spedeworth young gun rise and the truth is he is a quality addition to the grid who should not be discounted as threat to a top six finish, if not better. Started his championship winning ways with the unlimited East Anglian at Lynn last March, and finished third when he defended it last month, before lifting the 2litre Bovingdon Open in September and followed it up with his biggest win to date in February by taking the coveted London Open, potentially the last one to be staged at Plough Lane. A fifth in the TSR World at Lynn in October earned him a place here which further underlines his form on shale and he was in excellent form at Mildenhall at the season opener. A very good outside bet.

450 Glyn Platts
Another member of Stinkbridge confirmed for the big race and there could be more joining them come the night where the smart money suggests they will have a large influence on what goes on. While few expect them to stand on the podium at the end, they could spoil several people's chances along the way with their hard hitting, all action style. Platts was one of the Stinkbridge team on Good Friday where the team had something of a disappointing day by their own high standards and that will make them even more fired up for this one.

516 Carl Gould
Another of the sports fastest rising star and another wrongly overlooked Spedeworth racer. Finished an excellent second in the Spedeworth points in 2007 while BBA event success included a fifth in the English and third in the Ipswich Open although the truth is he was involved in many of the sports biggest races including victory in the unlimited Wreckfest event at Skegness. Has been getting better and better in the bigger cars, highlighted by a win at the unlimited East Anglian in March but is far more suited in the FWD stuff which should make him a danger here and he'll be keen to prove any doubters wrong. Already overdue a big win and it would be foolish to look past him in this one.

528 Alan Hunt
Certainly one of the leading entertainers on the Spedeworth scene, Jethro earned his place here with a decent seventh place in the Ipswich Open. We haven't seen him at Mildenhall for some time and it's rare to see Jethro on a shale surface these days although this shouldn't hinder him too much, given that he learned his craft on the dirt at Tadley. Arguably on paper he won't start as a hot favourite to challenge for the title but he has the experience and talent to make an impact in the race and he could present a danger to any of the front runners.

601 Lee Usher
Another driver who enjoyed a land mark season in 2007, winning the Incarace points and Hednesford track championship although he didn't have to fall back on that to earn a maiden place in this one, instead a ninth in his Wimbledon World Final debut forged his place on this starting grid. Another faced with something of an uphill struggle here with limited experience of Mildenhall or shale but a fiery character who is rarely off the pace and has the determination to make a impact in this one.

730 Dean Mayes
2007 was an incredible year for the Spedeworth young gun who lifted the Spedeworth points title as well as the BBA English, TSR World and Champion of Champions event. He also claimed fourth in the English Open and fifth in the Wimbledon World but was without a top 10 finish in either of the big events at Mildenhall. This is something he will be desperate to overcome this year having already broken his curse at Mildenhall which saw him going without finishing a race at West Row for far too long. Now he's overcome that hurdle he is a regular winner here and was the final winner here in January and could easily challenge for the track title is he committed to the challenge. A big contender tonight although many question if his new Midnight Runner colours could come into play in a race many predict they will be well involved in.

741 Luke Parfitt
Few give this seasoned campaigner the credit he so richly deserves. Having spent the early years of his career as a top wrecker he is now one of the fastest men on the track and 2007 saw him take fourth in the Spedeworth points, fifth in the Supreme, third in both the TSR and Spedeworth World Finals and second in the Champion of Champions as defending champion. 2008 has already started well by successfully retaining the 1800cc Heavy Metal Classic title at Standlake in January and lifting the 2litre Heartbreaker crown at Northampton in February. A regular winner at Mildenhall who almost always goes well here, if he gets away he will be a hard man to catch.

791 Nicky Young
Another of those to enjoy a breakout season in 2007 and he is deserving of his place in this championship as a result of much hard work last year as one of the top rising stars on the TSR scene. Finished second in both the track championship and entertainers league at Lynn last year to underline his all round ability. In the BBA title events he scored a ninth in his maiden British final before excelling with a fourth on home turf in the TSR World Final. No stranger to racing at Mildenhall and will be delighted to make it to this grand stage for the first time where he should be proud if he is able to repeat his British Final result.

The qualifying procedure
Qualifying for the National Banger BBA Supreme Champion is no mean feat and quite an accomplishment in itself as there are only three ways to qualify and there is no last chance qualifying on the night. The two methods of earning a place on the grid are

1. Record a top finish in a BBA championship event in 2007. Three drivers qualify from each race but they are not always the first three home as some drivers qualify twice. If a qualifier cannot attend the Supreme Championship we will continue down the result of the event they qualified in and the next driver will be invited to compete. The designated events are the Supreme Championship (at Mildenhall), World Cup (at Cowdenbeath), Thunderbolt (at Mendips), English (at Skegness), Unlimited Open (at Ipswich), King of the Peak (at Buxton), British (at Mildenhall), European (at Warneton), Autospeed World (at Taunton), Terminator (at Belle Vue), PRI World (at Arena Essex), TSR World (at King's Lynn), 2Litre World (at Hednesford) and Spedeworth World (at Wimbledon)

2. Each ORC/BBA promotion has a place for one seeded entry into the Supreme Championship. Ideally this driver should be their highest driver in their 2007 points chart who failed to qualify through a BBA Championship event.

3. All previous Supreme Champions are seeded into the race if they do not qualify in their own right. However for this to apply the driver must have raced at least six times the previous season. The only exception is the defending champion

Well this years sounds like its going to be even better!

Title race is on 1st and apparently there is no race card after that and instead they are going to see how many allcomer type races they can fit in and a DD (plus of course the saloons)

Not sure whether to go to this 1 or warton teams the day after????? Decisions Decisions

Dippy will be at Warton so northern bangers would get coverage of both if i go Mildo. Mildo will have more cars almost certainly. Warton is closer and would cost less. Mildo will have the preds etc and probably a decent size Brampton presance (outsiders, crushers,TSB). Warton will have the levs and maybe bong gang plus many other northern teams/drivers. Mildo IS the best track in the country at the moment and i enjoyed my 2 night meetings there in 2008 much more than any other meeting in 2008.

What do people think then???

MEETING INTRODUCTION

We are counting down the days to what is usually one of the biggest nights of the year at RDC with RDC's One Wild Night 2009 headlined by the National Banger BBA Supreme Championship featuring many of the sports biggest names from across the country.

Joining the bangers on the bill will be the sensational and all action Saloon Stockcars who will make their second appearance of the season at the Suffolk shaleway in round two if the 2008 track championship.

The National Banger BBA Supreme Championship has rapidly grown in stature after a slow start to the event which was first held in 2000 it's popularity and success has exploded since making Mildenhall's its annual home and the last five years have seen over 100 cars turning out including many of the biggest names in bangers. In fact last year's turnout was not only one of the biggest turnouts for the sport anywhere in the country in 2008 but was also a record breaking turnout for a Saturday night banger meeting at the stadium.

And the winner joins a very elite club of drivers to win what is becoming one of the sports most prestigious titles and will also get to hold the annual trophy, a stunning cup which is an exact replica of the trophy which Damon Hill won when he won the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Qualifying for the Supreme Championship is quite a feat in itself as all those on the grid have to earn a place either by recording a top finish in one of the designated BBA events from the 2008 season, by being the one seeded entry from their promotion or by being a former winner of the event. There is no last chance qualifying on the night and no 'back way' into the race-truly everyone on the grid is a contender.

And we now believe the Supreme is the only banger championship of the year which does not have last chance qualifiers on the grid which simply adds to its significance and recognition.

Subsequently many would argue that previous starting grid for the championship are among the greatest line up of big name talent seen at Mildenhall and they never disappoint with a highly competitive race. Last year's race saw 439 Danny Sutton follow up his London Open victory by winning one of the most dramatic and exciting title races the sport has seen in many years to complete his jump to superstardom in the sport.

Invitations have already been sent to all those drivers who have earned a place in this years grid and over the coming weeks we will continue to monitor those who confirm their intention to compete on the West Row Shaleway on Saturday March 28 for the title and promotions are also in the process of confirming their seeded entries which represent some of the top drivers from 2008 who missed out on qualifying in their own right.

The meeting will also feature a full programme of bangers and as with the majority of banger meetings at Mildenhall all drivers from all promotions will be welcome and day licenses will be available for non ORC licensed drivers. Drivers can book in by calling RDC on 01268 412299 or 07850 683953 or e mailing wastedmc@btopenworld.com but as always we will be operating a very informal system and all drivers will be welcome on the night itself.

Adding to the occasion with be the awesome all action Saloon Stockcars who compete in the second round of the Mildenhall track championship which is being former by British and English Champion 511 Craig Barnett.

Last year Barnett had to fend off stiff competition from British and ORC Champion 219 Luke Grief, 311 Steve Newman and former World Champion 499 Dave Aldous and these three will head the charge of drivers eager to knock Barnett off his perch in 2009. In fact the points race went right to the final race of 2008 so expect every race this season to be hotly contested.

This page has been designed to bring you as much news and information on the big day as we can and will be updated regularly in the build up to March 28. Please use the index below to guide yourself around the page.

Introduction
The stage is set and the countdown has begun to one of the biggest banger events of the year at Mildenhall Stadium, at RDC Promotions and in the entire sport...the 2009 BBA Supreme Championship.
Once again the cards have been dealt during the 2008 season and during the course of the various BBA recognised championship races around the country and Europe drivers have earned the right to take their place on this star studded grid.
Invitations have been sent to all of those who have secured a space and hopes are high that the majority will accept these invitations and join us at Mildenhall on March 28.
On paper the race once again has the potential to be one of the most star studded line ups for a banger championship ever seen on the Suffolk shaleway and RDC firmly believes the starting grid has the potential to rival any banger race in the sport.
There is no easy way into this race. You have to either secure a top result in one of the various championship races during 2008, finish near the summit of their promotions' points race or be a former champion.
This is the only major banger championship in sport where you cannot qualify on the night!
Put simply, everyone on the starting grid will be a player, whether they be title contender or party spoiler and this race has the ingredients to be an incredible affair as many of the sports biggest names do battle for one of its biggest prizes.
The Qualifiers (numerical order)
On this list we detail the qualifiers in numerical order and have also highlighted some of the championships currently held by the qualifiers just to show how much of a quality grid we could potentially have on our hands. Please note the list is subject to change as qualifiers who cannot attend the event may be replaced by reserves. Invitations have been sent to each of the qualifiers and reserves and when drivers begin to confirm their intention to compete they will be highlighted on the list. If a driver is unable to compete the relevant reserve will be contacted to see if they wish to accept a place on the grid. We will also added promotions seeded entries as and when they are confirmed. Seeded entries are highlighted on this list with a *

Drivers who have confirmed their intention to compete are indicated in bold.
Note re TSR World Final. Unfortunately due to a technical error (commonly known as a 'cock up') the wrong result was used from the TSR World Final when the qualifiers list was assembled for the championship and subsequently 741 Luke Parfitt was overlooked. As a result there are four drivers who appear on the list who have qualified via the TSR World Final and only if two of more of these qualifiers are unable to attend then reserves will be used from the race.

The Qualifiers (by promotion)

The qualifying procedure
Qualifying for the National Banger BBA Supreme Champion is no mean feat and quite an accomplishment in itself as there are only three ways to qualify and there is no last chance qualifying on the night. The two methods of earning a place on the grid are

1. Record a top finish in a BBA championship event in 2008. Three drivers qualify from each race but they are not always the first three home as some drivers qualify twice. If a qualifier cannot attend the Supreme Championship we will continue down the result of the event they qualified in and the next driver will be invited to compete. The designated events are the Supreme Championship (at Mildenhall), World Cup (at Cowdenbeath), English (at Mendips), Unlimited Open (at Ipswich), King of the Peak (at Buxton), British (at Mildenhall), UK Open (at Skegness), TSR World (at King's Lynn), European (at Warneton), Autospeed World (at Taunton), Terminator (at Belle Vue), PRI World (at Arena Essex), Masters (at Dover), 2Litre World (at Hednesford) and Spedeworth World (at Wimbledon)
2. Each ORC/BBA promotion has a place for one seeded entry into the Supreme Championship. Ideally this driver should be their highest driver in their 2008 points chart who failed to qualify through a BBA Championship event.
3. All previous Supreme Champions are seeded into the race if they do not qualify in their own right. However for this to apply the driver must have raced at least six times the previous season. The only exception is the defending champion

Electronic Lap Scoring
For the second year in a row the National Banger BBA Supreme Championship will be covered with the electronic lap scoring system.
Last year's pilot scheme proved very successful and was subsequently repeated for the BBA British Championship at Mildenhall in July.
All qualifiers for the race will be required to leave a £20 deposit on arriving at the track which they will receive in full when they return the transponder after the race.
RDC remain hopeful that the success of this system will ultimately see it used in other major championship events around the country.
Format Change
RDC have made the decision that the championship will be race one on the programme on March 28. In order to fully explain the reasoning behind this move we have included the entire letter which has been sent to all championship qualifiers and reserves.

This year we have decided to make a very big and significant change to the running order of the National Banger Supreme Championship and it is paramount that all finalists are aware of the change and we also wanted to take this time to explain why we have done this.

The change is simply that the National Banger BBA Supreme Championship will be RACE ONE on the programme which is set to start at 6.30pm.

We intend to begin the pre race build up and driver introductions from 6pm so it is crucial that all finalists are at the stadium no later than 5pm so you can get access to the pits, get scrutineered, collect and fix your transponder and get ready for the race.

As this is such an important, not to mention unusual, change to the format we thought it was only fair to explain our reasons for making the change and to outline the pros and cons which have gone into the decision.

PROS
This is the one and only banger championship of the season which has no last chance qualifying and the only time of the year where drivers cannot qualify on the night. Therefore there is no reason to not have the championship race first because all the qualifiers are locked into the grid with no last minute additions

We feel it is a little unfair on the championship qualifiers that under the traditional format for this meeting that they are the last drivers in the pits to go onto the track. By the time we have run a round of heats for the supporting cars and a stockcar race the Supreme Championship is usually race five and doesn’t go on track until around 8.30pm. With the greatest of respect to the non-qualifiers, this meeting is and should be about the Supreme Championship finalists as they are the main event and therefore we feel you deserve to be more of the centre of attention. By having the championship first, you are on track first and then have either maximum opportunity to compete in more of the later races or if you wish to leave after the title race you can be on the road much earlier than normal

By holding the championship race first we can save some time by having some of the pre race presentation before the official start time. It is unlikely we will complete all the driver introductions and presentation in order to start the race dead on 6.30pm but whatever time we spend on presentation before 6.30pm is time we would save if the race were run in the main body of the programme

Having the championship first will also make the rest of the programme simpler. After the Supreme final we will run heat one for the Saloon Stockcars and after that we will run as many banger Allcomer races as time or demand allows with these races broken up by the remaining stockcar races.

CONS
We believe there are two drawbacks to this plan. The first is that qualifiers must arrive at the stadium early and late arrivals may struggle. However we are giving you almost four months notice to plan ahead and so you know exactly what we are doing.

The second is having the big race first is most unusual, something we don’t think has ever been done before in bangers. We’re not 100 per cent sure if it will work but believe the pros make it a worthwhile experiment.

The Reserves

As explained in the qualifying system section of this page the list of drivers in the race could still change as we will be doing our best to get three drivers from each of the allocated 2008 championship races onto the Supreme Championship grid.

Reserves have been contacted and if they are enthusiastic about accepting the invite should a place present itself they are asked to contact us. Below is a list of the reserves who have expressed such an interest and a brief explanation as to how they could qualify.
