MEETING INTRODUCTION

We are now counting down the days and weeks to one of the biggest and most prestigious nights of the season at RDC Promotions and at Mildenhall Stadium

Once again two of the biggest races of the season, the National Banger BBA British Championship and Reliant Robin Championship of the World will be held on the same programme and this will happen at Mildenhall Stadium on Saturday July 26 starting at 7pm.

Two Championships-Another Wild Night!

12 months ago saw 364 Sean Winchester make history by becoming the first driver to retain the National Banger BBA British Championship at Mildenhall. Can he re-write the history books again and make it an incredible hat trick of victories this year?

Likewise 399 Darron Atkins will look to recreate history at this year's Another Wild Night by becoming the first driver to successfully retain the Reliant Robins World Championship.

Both drivers are at the top of their game but they will need to be at their very best on July 28 when they defend their coveted title against some of the best drivers in the business.

This page has been built and designed to bring you all the information you need on this huge event and includes the list of qualifiers for both championship races, and in the case of the Reliant Robin World Final the starting grid, plus details of others who have booked the meeting.

It also carries quick access to the history of both championships with links to reports of previous events and the rolls of honour plus the stories on how the drivers made it through to the big night thanks to our links to reports on all the qualifying rounds.

And we also have general meeting information which you may find helpful, especially if you are a first time visitor to Mildenhall Stadium.

Either use the quick links below to go straight to National Bangers, Reliant Robins or Meeting information or scroll down to read the entire page.

Last Chance Qualifier

There is still one last chance for drivers to book a place in the National Banger British Championship but it will not be be easy as it can only be achieved by success in one of the last chance qualifiers at the start of the programme on July 26.

In the coming weeks we will be compiling a list of drivers who have confirmed their intention to compete in the support races but as is usually the case at Mildenhall all drivers will be welcome on the night and booking in is not compulsory and so any list should be treated as a guide only.

Drivers wishing to book in should call RDC on 01268 412299 or 07850 683953 or e mail wastedmc@btopenworld.com

British Championship finalists preview

30 Roy Laybourn Jnr (PRI)
Without question, 30 Roy Laybourn Jnr has been one of the fastest rising stars PRI has seen in a very long time. The RDC Ministox graduate made his banger debut at the British last year at the wheel of a Granada coupe so it is somewhat fitting that he will make his biggest banger appearance to date exactly a year from his debut. After a number of lively outings at RDC between July 2007 and January 2008 he switched to PRI where he has rocketed to the top of their points chart, including a brief spell at the top of the table. Could be a dark horse here as he is no stranger to the Mildenhall shale but has yet to show much form at West Row in a banger and thus should consider anything inside the top 10 a success. One point of interest will be whether the recent issues between the Blue Crew and Midnight Runners will play a part in his role in the race.

33 Wayne Burnham (Incarace)
This long serving midlands based racer has really found form in recent weeks leading to his debut in the British. Probably won't start as a favourite but could be one to watch on the action front as that is usually his calling. However has tasted some success on the loose this season including a win in the unlimited Bandit Memorial at Lynn last monnth which bodes well for his chances should he commit to the cause this time.

37 Dave Lewis (RDC)
The first of the RDC contenders is perhaps one of the sports most underrated stars. With years of experience to his credit Lewis enjoyed his best season at Mildenhall to date last year finishing third in the track championship although his best big race form seems to come down the road at King's Lynn where he finished second in the 2006 World Final and won the National Championship last November. Having just as good a year at Mildenhall in 2008 and qualified for the British without the need to travel to Dover. Ran well in the Supreme in April and would have finished in the top six had he not got dumped out in the final laps, will be looking to go all the way in this one and follow his brother Pete's 1999 winning example.

66 Dave Spooner (Autospeed)
There are many drivers in for a very busy weekend at the end of July and the first is chief Renegade 66 Spoons who is not only booked in for the British but also Filo's Crashmania at Mendips the following day. Made the long, long trip from the west country to Mildenhall twice in the Spring for the Good Friday team meeting and Supreme and was very lively at both events. Another of the sports unsung stars who rarely gets the luck and credit he deserves and few would begrudge him a good result here. However on unfamiliar turf a top finish may be asking a little much in which case expect to see plenty of action instead.

67 Mark Whittaker (Buxton)
The switch to Buxton Raceway for 67 Sparky has been a good one for the Chatteris based racer over the last couple of years where he has won the track championship there for two years as well as many title races at the track including the King of the Peak and the Scottish at Cowdenbeath. He returns once again to the British grid after making a mark 12 months ago, stopping long time foe 85 James Ellis with a massive head-on. However this year sees him pretty clear of noticeable enemies which means barring a last minute addition via the last chance qualifiers he may be clear to set his sights on a good finish. Finished third two years ago and remains fast enought to go better.

82 Wayne Quinn (RDC)
For many seasons 82 Quinny has been tipped as a potential star on the RDC front, a driver with unlimited talent but restricted by other commitments which prevented him from competing full time. 2008 has been completely different with Quinny in action at almost every Mildenhall meeting plus the qualifiers at Dover and the results are exactly what many have predicted that he has quickly become one of RDC's finest in 2008. Has combined many excellent race results with several lively performances as well and he can certainly handle himself when things get messy. Definately one to watch here and one of RDC's top bets to keep the title at home.

86 Alex Savage (RDC)
Every season at RDC we tend to see at least one breakout star and in 2008 that honour goes to 86 Alex Savage who has leapt up the charts and established himself as a real contender. Qualified for the British the hard way and certainly earned his place on the grid, his points tally boosted by a fine display on his track debut at Dover in June followed by a killer display at the final round at Mildenhall. For such a rising star he displayed real skill in the June 28 final and should he be able to recapture that form there is no reason why he not challenge for a podium spot against the sports finest. But whatever the outcome he should be proud to have made it this far.

120 Shane Burbridge (RDC)
Yet another product of the RDC Ministox, 120 Fat Bloke has been a welcome return to the full time banger scene in 2008, becoming a regular at most Dover meetings but after a strong start to the British qualifying series he committed to the final rounds and despite struggling to score as well he did enough to secure a place on the grid. Another who should be very proud to have made the starting grid especially as he has done it the hard way and should consider any top 10 finish a real achievement. A lively racer though who could make a difference to the final outcome should the mood take him.

125 Lee Overy (RDC)
In a similar vein to the comments on 82 Wayne Quinn, 125 Lee Overy is another of RDC's stars who for whatever reason has up until 2008 never seemed to strike the form everyone knew he had in him. One reason has been his commitments outside of the sport and perhaps the other was his love for racing RWD cars which always seemed to make getting good results that little bit more difficult. A switch to FWD machinery and a commitment to the Mildenhall meetings in 2008 have seen a masisve transformation in this long serving racer who is presently having his best season to date at RDC. Currently heads the track championship after senesational displays at the first two Mildenhall rounds and will start the British as one to keep an eye on. Still capable of the big hits when he needs to so could become explosive if his chances go up in smoke.

131 Barry Wade (RDC)
The former champion has returned to top form in 2008 after a difficult 12 months at Spedeworth in 2007. Showed the old 131 Wadey with a blistering heat win in a 36 car race at Dover in June and came close to a stunning final win at the last qualifier at Mildenhall. This will be his kind of race where speed isn't the be all and end all and survival instinct will play a huge role, just as it did when he lifted the British title. A strong contender as long as he can make a good start, unlike the Supreme where his chances were over inside a lap. Should he make it into the second half of the race, expect him to be near the front at the end.

183 Paul Hunter (PRI)
Paul has remained one of the consistent performers at PRI over recent years, quietly picking up points with every outing and steadily climbing the ranks at Arena just as he has done this season making the most of a lack of a war and some of PRI's top performers from previous years taking some time off and he has certainly grabbed the opportunity with both hands. A very quick racer on home turf who might struggle a little with a lack of shale form but should he get to grips with the track conditions and survive the opening laps he could spring a surprise.

188 John Reeves (RDC)
Having hinted at doing it in previous years 188 Victor has finally achieved what many knew was possible and become one of RDC's genuine star performers. 2008 has seen him also become one of the promotions most dedicated, missing just two meetings between January and July which is an incredible feat. One thing is still misisng and that is the big championship result and he will be looking to seize that here. Another RDC racer who had no luck whatsoever in the Supreme so well overdue some big race luck here. His Mildenhall form is better than ever and he'll be hoping it's a lively race which would be right up his street. Another capable of getting his hands dirty should the race get messy or his chances disappear.

190 Steve Bailey (Autospeed)
Few would argue that west country superstar 190 Pikey has been one of the stars of the season and certainly one of the most dedicated and the British will represent his fourth trip to Suffolk after the Suffolk Open teams, Supreme and unlimited Suffolk Open. Each of his trips have had one thing in common that he is always involved on the action front as the West Row shaleway has a knack of bringing out his wrecking side which is never a bad thing. Certainly capable of making a challenge for the title should he focus on it but again the majority expect a lively performance from the west countryman who loves competing at Mildenhall.

212 Richard Maryon (TSR)
The banger scene at King's Lynn has certainly been on the up in 2008 with better turnouts than the Norfolk Arena has seen in quite some time and among the entries has seen quite a few fresh faces rise up the ranks and establish themselves as the top men at the promotion. One such contender is former Saloon Stockcar racer 212 Mario whose full time switch to bangers has seen him enjoy many strong results at Lynn. Has failed thus far to translate them to good results at Mildenhall but that is surely set to come anytime soon, and don't be surprised if it happens on July 26. A dark horse who should not be overlooked.

222 Matt Logan (Incarace)
Certainly one of Incarace's long serving stars for many years, the Barton Boy was a part of a very strong Midlands showing at the Suffolk Open earlier this month but he had little success, a little like his 2007 Supreme outing where he copped it big time from a revenge seeking 158 Shane Davies. Gave a great account of himself at Buxton earlier in July as part of a very under strength Incarace team which displayed his ability to survive, a talent he will need here. Should he go the distance there is no reason why he could not challenge for a strong finish, despite a lack of Mildenhall and shale experience.

247 Lee Clarke (Spedeworth)
Without doubt one of Spedeworth's brightest hopes for the future and came within one final bend of a famous triumph in the Supreme Championship in April. Coming so close will make him even more determined to win that first major title here and few would bet against him after such an impressive performance in April. Gaining more and more big race experience all the time which makes him a bigger danger with each and every title appearance and has shown his crashing skills as well at Mildenhall in recent weeks with two DD victories in May and June.

292 Keith Saunders (TSR)
At one time Saunders was a regular visitor to West Row but 2008 has seen him fully committed to the King's Lynn fixtures, racing in all three of TSR's classes to help him currently lead both the Lynn track championship and Entertainers League through a combination of racing smart cars, material and several lively displays. Another overdue a big title showing but a lack of Mildenhall form could count against him. If he makes it through the early stages he will be a solid bet to finish in the top six.

331 Jason Jackson (PRI)
The reigning and two time unlimited World Champion, 331 Boxer Jack remains one of the biggest names in the sport and the British is one of the few major titles he has yet to win and one of even fewer he has publicly stated he would love to win. Finished on the podium before and has won the Supreme at Mildenhall which stands in his favour of taking the crown here. Fell foul of the Management 12 months ago which begs the question of whether we'll see more of the same in 2008 and many will be looking to see if there is any further developments between the Runners and Blue Crew here. However if he remains problem free he is a serious contender to the title.

PostSubject: Re: MILDENHALL BBA BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP   Thu Jul 17, 2008 7:38 pm

341 Andy Jones (Autospeed)
We last saw Posh Wash star 341 Jonesey at the Suffolk Open team meeting where he was his usually crash happy self and since then he has lifted the BBA English at Mendips, his first and thoroughly well deserved, major title. A lack of Mildenhall form could limit his chances of repeating that winning result on West Row soil but he certainly be one to watch owing to his love for crashing. Another who seems to always be on a wrecking mission when he visits and many will be hoping for more of the same here which would mean no-one will be safe and it remains to be seen if we see more of the Posh Wash v Midnight Runner battle which has already written a few chapters at Mildenhall over the years.

348 Sonny Sherwood (PRI)
The former three time British Champion 348 Mushy remains one of the biggest stars of the sport who after a championship winning drought in 2007 has recaptured his title winning ways this season and has already lifted the Heartbreaker and World Figure of 8 crowns. Has also enjoyed a few lively meetings with the Gladiators when they have crossed paths at Mildenhall this season but with no high profile enemies on the grid his path could be clear to make more history and win the race for an incredible fourth time. While Mildenhall form has been mixed in 2008 for the former Supreme Champion, the big race environment always seems to bring the best out in Mushy and it would be no surprise at all to see him finish on the podium,

361 Chris Walden (Skegness)
The last few seasons have seen 361 Wally steadily establish himself as one of the leading names at King's Lynn and Skegness where he has won points titles in the last couple of years but it without the championship race win which is surely overdue. Has made an impressive move into unlimited bangers in 2008 with a killer display at the unlimited and a near podium finish in the Suffolk Open earlier this month. This format will be more to his liking and based on his strong show at the Suffolk Open he will start as one to watch and a solid bet for a top six finish or better.

362 Matt Godden (Incarace)
It seems a little hard to believe that this second generation racer only made his Mildenhall debut back at Easter for the Good Friday team meeting as since then he has become almost a part of the furniture at Mildenhall and gets better and better with every visit. Highlights this year at Mildenhall include a killer performance in his rated PC Cresta estate at the pre 70 and a near last car running win in his Rover P5 at the unlimited in July. This will mark the biggest race of his young career to date and surely more will follow and he will look to make the most of the big occasion and a top 10 finish would be a great achievement.

364 Sean Winchester (RDC)
The reigning and two time champion will look to rewrite history once more and secure an incredible hat trick in this event to match his amazing achievement in the Accumulator Championship a couple of years ago. The reigning Mildenhall and Dover Track Champion, RDC Drivers Champion and Kent Champion has recently recaptured his top Mildenhall form, his third in the unlimited Suffolk Open on July 12 seeing him race back towards the top of the Mildenhall points race. Says 2008 will be his final season of full time competition and will look to end things in style by leaving a legacy which may perhaps never be matched by winning the British three years on the trot.

385 Roy Gedge (TSR)
Yet another of TSR's fastest rising stars who is surely overdue a big win in the not too distant future. Was a race winner at Mildenhall on Good Friday which showed his survival instinct, a skill which will probably be needed in abundance in this race. Although we don't see too much of him at Mildenhall he usually goes well whenever he visits which bodes well for him in this one and will relish the fact that this race is pretty much free of his usual enemies which could give him a free shot at gunning for the title.

439 Danny Sutton (Spedeworth)
What a season 2008 has been for 439 Sutty following up his London Open victory in February with a sensational last bend win in the Supreme at Mildenhall in April. This success has catapulted him to the top of the chart at Spedeworth and he remains a front runner in the Mildenhall points despite struggling at West Row in recent weeks. Much like the Supreme, the British will be a racing environment much to his liking and it would be no great surprise to see his championship winning form continue here. Another serious contender from Spedeworth.

465 Andy Scarlett (RDC)
RDC young gun 465 Andy Scarlett continues to show all the signs of being one of RDC's next big things but has thus far found it difficult to jump to the next level and have a good showing in a championship race but the 2008 British offers another opportunity for him to shine on the big stage. Has remained consistent if unspectacular this season but had a blinding meeting at the Dover qualifier in June. Will be hoping for a lively race which would probably present his best chance to excel and will be working hard for a maiden podium finish in the British.

472 Matt Cooke (Incarace)
While we seem to be seeing more and more midlands drivers at Mildenhall in recent months, one we have not seen in a while is 472 Matty who made a few appearances in 2007 including an Accumulator qualifier winning performance. Remains one of the top stars at Incarace although rarely gets the credit he deserves and certainly a strong finish in a high profile meeting like the British would do wonders for that. Another very capable of a good finish here, especially if he can put the track knowledge he built up on his 2007 visits to good effect.

564 Mark Cooper (Spedeworth)
It's been quite some time since we last saw 564 Coatie on a British Championship grid but a strong early season push in the Spedeworth points has put him right in contention with the promotion and a welcome return to this grid. His recent Mildenhall visits tend to be for the novelty events and his unlimited van antics last season in his Winnebago were certainly something to remember. Remains to be seen if he still has the pace to challenge for a big finish in this one but definately has the experience to push for a top six finish or better.

714 Paul Smaldon (Autospeed)
2008 is shaping into quite the season for the Posh Wash livewire as he is currently ranked second in the Autospeed points which could mean the British is the first of several high profile outings to come for 714 No Show. Not yet known for big championship results but more renown for his crashing antics so it will be interesting to see what his goals are in this race. However a lack of track experience could restrict his ability for a championship challenge in which case many would expect him to put on a crashing show instead which will probably spell disaster for at least one contender,

741 Luke Parfitt (Spedeworth)
One of the sports longest serving racers 741 Capt D continues to register the big race results including a third in the Wimbledon World last November and he starts this one as as big a threat as ever. Goes better than ever around Mildenhall and was in winning form in June which underlines his potential here despite being yet to enjoy a top finish in a Mildenhall championship race. One of the most experienced racers on the grid but still a very underrated performer who should not be overlooked or discounted by anyone on the grid.

898 Andy Battle (RDC)
Without doubt, the breakout star of 2007 at RDC was 898 Andy Battle which included a British final debut as a lucky reserve. Earned his place on the grid this year with a sensational June which included two top three finishes at Dover, a stunning last bend final win at Mildenhall plus winning the 2litre Bandit Memorial at Lynn. After a slightly disappointing start to the season he has recaptured his top form at just the right time and is once again showing the form which many have led to predict him to be one to watch at RDC in the coming seasons. A big finish here would do wonders to cement his reputation and already several have tipped him as a contender.

PostSubject: Re: MILDENHALL BBA BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP   Wed Jul 01, 2009 2:03 pm

Congratulations to National Banger BBA British Championship finalists (added July 1)
Following the final British Championship qualifier at Mildenhall last weekend we would like to congratulate the 10 RDC drivers who topped the table and secured their place in the Grand Final, which will be staged at Mildenhall on Saturday, August 8.

So firstly well done to 53 Dave Palmer, 64 Barry Lee, 81 Lee Greenwood, 86 Alec Savage, 148 Ian Redden, 188 John Reeves, 318 Terry Chapman, 465 Andy Scarlett, 617 Jack Overy and 682 Paul Sparrow who are guaranteed starters on August 8, 64 Barry the Bull, 81 NumbNuts and 318 Shifty set to make their debut in the race.

Meanwhile just missing out on a guaranteed place but hoping to make it in as reserves are the remainder of the top 15 which are in order 455 Luke Cornish (who missed the top 10 by one point!), 37 Dave Lewis, 183 Bobby Wilmer, 492 Dean Harper and 20 Andy Burbridge and 346 Scott Saunders who finished joint 15.

Bad luck to 159 Darren Scarrow, 370 John Cobbold, 898 Andy Battle and 349 Lee Saunders who narrowly missed out by just a handful of points. Just to underline how close this years race for the championship spots was a mere 30 points covered 10th to 20th place in what has perhaps been the most fiercely contested British qualifying series to date.

Another driver deserving of much credit is Spedeworth's 247 Lee Clarke who has made history by becoming the first wildcard qualifier for the British. There has always been an unwritten and rarely spoken off ruling that should a visitor score more British qualifying points than the 10th highest RDC qualifier they would be seeded onto the grid and 247 Bro has become the first visiting driver to achieve this in 2009.

Beyond that we have a few more visiting seeds already confirmed with 432 Mark Munson and 549 Phil Smith the first of the PRI seeds announced, 998 Wayne Cotterill Jnr will represent Startrax and defending champion 361 Chris Walden will be on the grid representing TSR in addition to their seeded entries. We aim to have much more on the British Championship in the coming weeks.

PostSubject: Re: MILDENHALL BBA BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP   Mon Jul 20, 2009 12:38 am

We are now counting down the days and weeks to one of the biggest and most prestigious nights of the season at RDC Promotions and at Mildenhall Stadium

Once again two of the biggest races of the season, the National Banger BBA British Championship and Reliant Robin Championship of the World will be held on the same programme and this will happen at Mildenhall Stadium on August 8 starting at 7pm.

Two Championships-Another Wild Night!

Last year's meeting was an unforgettable night and an unforgettable British Championship as a huge thunderstorm hit the stadium as the race entered the final stages, throwing the race into complete chaos. But from the mayhem emerged rising star 361 Chris Walden who just held off 125 Lee Overy to register his first major championship win in the sport and within a month he would add the Crash Attack UK Open and TSR World Championship to his collection. But there is no denying his star was born at the BBA British Championship.

Likewise 66 Steve Willis will look to recreate history at this year's Another Wild Night by becoming the first driver to successfully retain the Reliant Robins World Championship. For so many years 66 Pork Pie has chased the World title, winning every other major Reliant Robins title at RDC and coming so close on more than one occasion to winning the gold roof. Finally in 2008 all the pieces fell into place and he will not be giving up the crown easily.

Both drivers are at the top of their game but they will need to be at their very best on August 8 when they defend their coveted title against some of the best drivers in the business.

This page has been built and designed to bring you all the information you need on this huge event and includes the list of qualifiers for both championship races, and in the case of the Reliant Robin World Final the starting grid, plus details of others who have booked the meeting.

We are delighted to report that once again RDC will be using the transponder system once again in this years British Championship.

This will mark the second time this scheme has been used in a British Championship and RDC are pleased with how well the system has proved in major championship events at RDC in helping to stamp out any controversy over race results.

As with the Supreme Championship, all qualifiers for the big race on August 8 will need to pay a £20 deposit when they arrive at the stadium which will be returned in full when they return the transponder after the title race.
