Warton, 8th September, Unlimited Bangers Championship Day
Cheers to Northern Steam Editor Stu Kearsley for providing this report from Wartons annual Championship meeting. For a further issue see the next issue of Northern Steam.
Despite only having 27 cars, Wartons annual Championship Meeting on sept 8th drew its fair share of material. Team V duo 266 Big Al & 340 Trev had a MK2 Limo & MK2 Hearse respectively whilst the Motley Krew went a bit better with a 300c Estate from 449 Mark Thomas, Oldsmobile Cutlass from 149 Paul Gore and from 666 Andy Pennington, arguably Wartons best ever car, a Lincoln Town car Limo.

Heat 1 was for non-qualifiers and drew just 9 cars, 97 Baz Kitchen crusing to the win after team-mate 291 Filthy Boy shed a wheel and put himself into the plating.
Result-97 Baz Kitchen,186, 169 Steve Horsefield, 196, 178 Bones

The remaining 18 gridded for the Championship with 666 Pennington using the Limo to run 41 Dan Steele & 224 Micheal Ross wide. Steele planted Trev into 394 Andy Thompson who was parked up later by 297 Tim Nickson. Trev then pulled off a rated follow-in on Gore's Yank which snapped alarmingly but he was soon out alright. Thomas then drove through the empty Atkinson car who got the load up anyway with Steele giving 491 John Mason a stiff shot after he had spun 157 Bazza out but undeterred Mason took the win.
Result- 491 John Mason, 514 Paul Woods, 350 Lee Hird, 157 Barry Greenhalgh, 224 Micheal Ross, 297 Tim Nickson, 41 Dan Steele.

Next up was two allcomers, the first drawing 11 cars and it was a blinder. Steele walled 169 Little Hoss well and Filthy Boy set about 501 Basher. Steele then did 186 Fish well and put him in, 169 Little Hoss also running Basher in. Steele a lap later put Hoss Jnr into the 501 car with the 169 pilot recovering to dod Filthy Boy head-on. 98 Billy Doolan hten blew the 169 MK2 up with Steele firing Kitchen in on the last bend to take the win.
Result- 41 Dan Steele, 514 Paul Woods. NOF

Allcomers 2 by comparison was very poor, the only real action of note saw Pennington having the tempremental Limo spun by 512 Allan Woods, in a rad-up Lada Riva!. 157 Bazza won.
