Warton, 25th July, 2 Litre Bangers

18 cars for the 4th 2 Litre meeting of the Warton season with the usual variety amongst the entry, the Bluebird numbering 7 with others including Sierra, Saab 9000, Honda Aerodeck and Colt while it was pleasing to note the Cortina and Capri present in numbers, the latter was 4 strong while a brace of Tinas included a fresh Mk5 estate.

13 appeared for the opener with 158 Thomas Hollingworth on the case early by putting 129 Maynie Robinson in early on the wet track before hitting 268 Chris Norman over the front wheel. 573 Oggie inturn fired up the back of Hollingworth who recovered to weigh into 286 Michael Lee as Oggie steamed 215 Jason Joyce and had 119 Chip do him inturn. 156 Dave Knight then pulled off a solid follow in on Robinson as 41 Dan Steele saw out the remaining laps to win from a chasing 514 Paul Woods and Knight. We learnt after the race that Robinson had suffered a broken heel in the impact so our best wishes go to him for a speedy recovery.

42 Donkey got heat 2 off to bang by following 170 Gavin Howard into 511 Steve Scurr Snr as Joycey weighed into Knight, Hollingworth then putting Young Scurr and himself in as 121 Terry Bradley fired up the back of Norman. Steele now followed Lee in as Joycey followed suit on 61 Dave Gawn before Hollingworth hit 839 Adrian Oldroyd on the back straight. Steele had Oggie out and Donkey fired up the back of Oldroyd allowing Hollingsworth a solid shot on the TNT mans Donald, Steele then t-boning Oldroyd as Knight buried Hollingworth by the out gate, the reds then came out for Bradley who had been put in by the in gate but seemed all OK, the race declared with Woods the victor this time, ending a lively race

Woods launched Oggie & Oldroyd up the inner kirb as the final got underway before going up himself courtesy of Knight who was later put in the wall by Steele. Joycey had Oldroyd out before the reds appeared for a fire in Bradleys motor with Young Scurr leading the field off on the restart, Oggie proving to be most lively on the restart by having Joycey and then the leading Scurr out who recovered well in front of Steele to take the win from 41 and Knight.

Just three returned for the demo which was short and sharp, Oggie and Gawn engaging head on before Hewlitt steamed Oggie, the latter recovering for a revenge hit on the 291 Cortina before Oggie and Gawn met in a simply huge head on, snapping both motors and seeing the back end of both go well in the air. This stopped both on the spot and a joint win declared.

This wrapped up a half decent domestic with the head on in the DD by far the highlight.
