Sheffield, 2nd June, Unlimited Banger BBA Shale World Final
A disappointing turnout of just 29 motors for this World Championship event at Sheffield. Some top visiting entries though with promotions being presented from Barford, GMP, Autospeed, PRI, RDC and Incarace. Car wise we had mostly Granadas and Jags with the pick being the XJ40 of 165 Mark Henstock.
With the low turn out it was decided to put everyone straight through into the World Championship race. Everyone appeared for it with 165 Hentock and 428 Grumpy being drawn on pole. 85 Shaun Barnes kicked it off with a good follow in to 09 Psycho on turns 3-4 with the latter then recieving further punishment from 502 Hoagy. 880 Naisy hit 88 Speedy as 162 Brett Ellacott took 110 Maddog in. 252 Darren Askham then steamed Barnes as Psycho met Naisy on the nose. The stationary Barnes then took a succesion of hits off the traffic before being finished off by Henstock who delivered a good blitz to the 85 motor. 120 Shane Brown then took Hentock in on the back straight with a superb jacking train following. 409 Carlos Pears blitzed Brown who was then given an almighty blitz by 200 Noon. Ellacott hit 173 Ray Sharrod as 536 Anette Nicholls took her rear wheel out after clipping Barnes with 920 James Medley, Sharrod, 05 Carlos Perez and Ellacott then all going in on the back straight with Medley and Sharrod catching posts hard. 977 Paul Scothern then steamed Ellacott as Psycho hit Perez on oppo. Perez replied with a succesion of hits to the Stinkbridge pilot only to be taking out by 158 Shane Davies. 617 Jack Overy won after being drawn at the back of the grid followed home by 428 Grumpy in what was a superb championship race.
Down to 18 starters for the World Revenge as Overy attacked Hoagy before Brown planted Henstock into the Scotsman. 47 Andy Davies attacked Brown as Scothern buried Maddog into the centre tyres. Andy Davies spun Noon with the latter then taking a hit over the front wheel from 450 Glyn Platts before taking a night finising roof bender from Grumpy. Noon emerged a little winded but thankfully recovering minutes latter. Meanwhile on the home straight Ellacott, Sharodd and Shane Davies all went in hard with 253 Steve Askham then firing up the back of Grumpy after the latter had waved him in. Andy Davies spun Askham en-route to victory.
11 cars returned for the World Masters which started with Hoagy putting Darren Askham in who then took further punishment from Ellacott. Andy Davies fired into 811 Pete Winter before Grumpy did the same to 724 Digger. 158 Shane Davies then came under fire from Darren Askham with Davies also copping a hit off Grumpy. Winter then caught a post hard on the back straight, with the aid of Hoagy, snapping his estate well. Ellacott took the victory as Grumpy blitzed Hoagy on the back straight and Shane Brown homed in with the big hit to Hoagy, missed and subsequently met Shane Davies in a big head on, wrecking their motors impressively.
This ended an exceptionally lively meeting for the number of cars that were on offer. It was really a case of quality not quantity with most coming away pretty happy with a good nights racing and wrecking which you are always guaranteed around Sheffield.
