PostSubject: Barrow 16/9/01   Wed Jan 17, 2007 11:06 am

It was a tremendous turnout of 48 cars fro the third & final Barrow Unlimited of the year on Sept 16. Included in this were drivers from Incarace, RDC, Buxton and GMP with a few non-Granadas on offer, 3 Vole Estates, Carlton, 4 Jags, 929 Estate, Saab 900 and a used Dodge Charger from 461 Singy. Special mention however to 57 Steve Hardy who campaigned a Hunter with some effect as it was leaving the Fords standing on the Roosecote Circuit!!

It was a three way split for the heats which meant they were a little quiet and heat 1 set the tone for the day with an internal feud in the Stinkbridge camp seeing them at war with each other. 169 Little Hoss hit 11 Racey early on, 409 Carlos in an immaculate MK2 gave 168 Big Hoss a hard t-bone on the centre before Racey gave head-ons to both 168 & 169. 917 Derek Jones in the Carlton got in on the act by t-boning Racey, again on the centre as 14 Sausage Boy took the win.

Result- 14 Will Walmsley, 41 Dan Steele, 105 Darren Briggs. NOF

09 Psycho went for it from the off in Heat 2 as he picked up 53 Dave Cuthbert, who in turn latched onto 236 Nobby who in turn got on the back of 325 Mark Dempster and they all went piling in. 88 Wayne Morphet (Series 3) wasted the 325 car with a good steam then with 85 Toddy clipping the back straight fence and snapping his MK2 off. After a period of yellows 252 McWibbs ran Cuthbert in and 69 Smelly clipped the kerb and stopped at the end of the straight. Cue 294 Nigel Ashley who gave the 69 the big one which wrote it off with no-one hitting back at the pink, 156 Anorak winning.

Result-156 Daz Fine, 690 Pete Richardson, 57 Steve Hardy, 88 Wayne Morphet.

143 Sam Begley put 196 Tank away early in heat 3, 293 Paul Ashley giving Tank the t-bone. 00 Chris Emery crashed into the empty 929 of 87 Steve Spencer as 372 Scully jacked down and ran in the MK5 Estate of 108 Tango Man. 300 Dan Kirkbride then walled Scully as 266 Big Al gave a spun 133 Wally a head-on, 550 Strip-it taking his usual Barrow win.

Result- 550 Davey Sinclair, 143 Sam Begley, 182 Chris Burgess, 78 Dan Sharpe, 133 Dave Walshaw

The consi turned into pure carnage with a mass pile-up seeing most of the field thundering in, such was the speed of the action the biro couldnt keep up!! McWibbs went in on Big Hoss and had his back wheels lifted clean off the deck by a length of the straight hit from Nobby, 293 Paul hit Little Hoss with Big Al blasting and finishing Ashley for the day with 167 Bushwhacker doing Big Al. 155 Scott Hamilton did Bushwhacker, 684 Alan Morphet snapped his Jag off when he did 16 Rob Howard with Bushwhacker also doing 684 Alan. The reds came out at this point with no-one left running and the race was delcared null & void.

Qualifiers only for the final and 88 Wayne met a spun 10 Rugrat in a heavy head-on. Hardy walled Scully and Begley gave 317 Bullet a head-on. 41 Dan Steele won in a smart Series 1 as on the rundown lap Hardy leant' Anorak in, Steele piled into the 156 car and 105 Darren Briggs steamed the Jag.

Full Result unavailable at the moment

10 came out for the day closing DD and 152 Mr Grumpy met Little Hoss on the infield. Psycho, Carlos & Racey then all delivered hits to Big Hoss who was waving them in leaving just the Pinks to battle it out amongst themselves. This they did with Psycho & Bushwhacker hitting Racey before Psycho & Carlos met in big head-on killing them both, Racey getting the verdict as he was barely moving.

Result-11 Darren Race from 167 David Holmes

Man of the Meeting- 236 Nobby for the hit he gave 252 McWibbs in the Consi.

Thanks to Stu Kearsley for this report.

Barrow 16th September Unlimited Bangers
A great turn out of just under 50 Bangers for Barrow's last unlimited meeting of the season. Visitors came from GMP, Warton, Barford, Buxton, RDC and Incarace. On the material front 390 Unsy returned his Kings Lynn WOS Mk 1, 461 Peter Singleton returned his Dodge Charger, 57 Steven Hardy had a fresh Humber Sceptre, 87 Steven Spencer had a 929 Mazda Estate and there were jags from 41 Dan Steele, 26 David Scott and the Morphet brothers, 684 Alan and 88 Wayne. I must also mention the brilliant turn out of 12 Stinkbridge, although one, 318 Wilf Speak didnt race.
A mintue's silence was held before the meeting in rememberence of all the people who lost their lives in the American terrorist attacks.
Only 13 cars for heat 1 which started with 14 Butch putting 11 Darren Race in. 155 Mr Nervous then jacked and spun 169 Little Hoss in one go before Race played with team mate 168 Big Hoss on the centre with Race then t-boning Little Hoss. Steele put 105 Darren Briggs in while Alan Morphet steamed Mr Nervous. Butch had now taking the win from Steele and the recovered Briggs.
A better 17 cars for heat 2 and 09 Psycho kicked it off in style by latching onto 53 Dave Cuthbet who inturn latched onto the formers running mate 236 Nobby, who put 25 Dempster up the fence as a result. Wayne Morphet then pulled off a superb blitz on the luckless Dempster, leaving the latters estate well totalled. 252 McWibbs then followed in the recovered Cuthbet. The race then went roddy for a while until 69 Smelly put himself into the inner kerb which put a wheel back and slowed him enough for 294 Nigel Ashley to perform a brilliant length of the straight blitz on the formers Mk2. 156 Daz Fine won from 690 Pete Richardson, Hardy and Wayne Morphet.
17 cars again for heat 3 and 196 Tank started things off by putting 108 Tangoman in while 182? did the same to Spencer. RDC visitor 372 Scully put himself into the infield tyre's before 59 Mark Blower put 00 Chris Emery into the strandad Spencer. Scully then went onto put 246 Steven Flannery round before going onto jack down Tangoman's estate. 300 Dan Kirkbride put Scully up the wall before 550 Stripit put Flannery in. 266 Big Al met 133 Wally on the nose while Stripit took the flag.
Upto 24 cars for the consolation which looked like being a promising race and thats what we got. From the off a massive pile up formed on turns 3-4. It started off with Singleton and Scott both getting thundered in, the latters Jag being left in quite a state. McWibbs then piled in and in the process blitzed Big Hoss although he paid for it with a massive blitz from Nobby which left McWibbs back wheels nearly around his ears! Alan Morphet then superbly blitzed 16 Pob. 293 Paul Ashley piled in but paid for it with a rated blitz from Big Al. 167 Bushwacker then avenged the hit on his team mate by blitzing Big Al and Mr Nervous steamed Bushwacker. Late arrival 317 Bullet then hit Mr Nervous which ended a brilliant race and a terrific sequence of hits.
As just about all the field was in the pile up an end was called for and a void race decided.
The race was run again after the interval but the race only drew 4 cars(which is understandable considering the last race!) thus it was decided that they all qualified for the final and no race was run.
15 cars for the qualifiers only final and Wayne Morphet started off proceedings by meeting 10 Rugrat on the nose. Steele put Richardson in before Bullet also met 143 Sam Begley on the nose. Fine and Richardson then took each other out before Butch removed Stripit and Steele did the same to 182. Steele took the win from Fine and on the run down lap third place man Hardy took Fine in and Steele steamed the former only to cop a hit off Briggs.
10 cars made the DD. It started off with Race jacking Big Hoss while 152 James Dillon and Little Hoss met head on. Psycho then blitzed Big Hoss on opposite and Race t-boned Big Hoss before 409 Carlos Pears did him head on to finish the 168 car off. Psycho then hit Race but copped a hit off Bushwacker. Pears then came round the wrong way to meet Psycho in a big head on, on turns 3-4 to take a joint win as no one backed off.
This finished a brilliant meeting once again at the Roosecote Raceway and that big consolation pile up will live long in the memory.
