Barford Raceway, 24th November, Unlimited Bangers + Caravans
A half decent showing of 19 cars for Barfords last meeting of the season, one visitor in the shape of 224 Gary Glenn from GMP. A big range of cars were on show today including a Sierra, Sirocco, 2 Saab 900s, a Bluebird, two Mk3 Vans, couple of Cav's, a late Mazda 323 saloon and a meaty Rover 827 from 26 David Scott. Must mention though 182 Garry Cooper in a Mk3 Escort against Grannies and the like, Crazy!!
Only 12 appeared for the first race, most opting to keep theirs for the caravan race. On a very slippy track 53 Ian Armstrong started the day off by t-boning 6 Paul Musgroves van who then took more punishment from 182 Gazza before 371 Stephen Grundy weighed into 507 Guy Kirkpatricks Saab 900. Scott planted the latter into the fence soon afterwards with the Scotsman then copping a head on from 371 Spider. The latter kept on oppo to meet 34 Anthony Evans on the nose only to take a package over the front wheel from Armstrong as Gazza then drove up the back of 36 Mark Gaskall. Spider did Kirkpatrick over the front wheel as Gazza hit Evans with the recovered Kirkpatrick then running Gaskall in. 105 Darren Briggs hooked Gazza out though he soon recovered to give Kirkpatrick the same treatment while elsewhere Armstrong steamed into Evans dead motor. Briggs hit Kirkpatrick before Gazza had Gaskall out and Scott hit Armstrong over the front wheel. 35 Mark Cummings then steamed Kirkpatrick well as Gazza in the Escort took the win with Cummings following him home and no other finishes ended a lively first outing.
Heat 2 was reduced to 6 cars and got underway with Kirkpatrick spinning out on the pit bend and being hit DSU by Scott while Briggs steamed the former and Gazza put himself in as a result, Briggs winning from Gazza and Cummings.
One more for the final as Armstrong hit Musgrove and Scott fired Kirkpatrick up the banking, the latter taking more punishment courtesy of a hard shot from Gazza. Scott then followed in Musgrove with only two now left running, Briggs the eventual winner and Cummings the runner up.
The Caravan race saw a decent turn out of 8 vans and a couple of Banger Rod lads thrown in as well, 8 Adrian Crann ramped through 49 Ron Fulbirg on the home straight as 77 David Patterson hit Spider, the latter then loosing his once pride and joy as 124 Steve Oldfield duly drove staright through it, 12 Stephen Potts then followed in 224 Glenn as Oldfield drove into 165 Rob Brownfields Tranny. 124 continued to hit Spider only to take one from Patterson who was done t-boned inturn by Brownfield. With no cars left running Patterson was awarded the win.
12 returned for the DD and after a clutch start Glenn ran Musgrove in and 929 Kev Ellis did Gazza well before meeting Spider head on. Glenn fired Gazza into Spider as Ellis lunged at Brownfield DSU before Gazza pulled off with a fire. Glenn then did Potts only to be run in as a result by Briggs, 35 Cummings then heading on Brownfield as Glenn steamed Briggs, the latter then meeting 28 Stephen Hill in a solid head on, with Cummings then firing into the Banger Rod driver inturn. Only Briggs was left running after this and he was duly awarded victory ending a pretty decent and enjoyable day.
