Barford Raceway, 20th October, National Bangers Ken Buckle Memorial Cup
Unlike the Great Northern Championship dry weather greeted us for Barfords(usually)second biggest meeting of the year. A disappointing 12 cars turned out though with one visitor in the shape of 81 Andrew Benn from Millom and car of the day going to 12 Stephen Potts who with a 200L.
The memorial race was run as the first heat with 11 cars appearing for it. 12 Pottsy got the action underway by doing 81 Benno over the front wheel before 0 Eddy Musgrove did the same to 182 Garry Cooper(Sierra). The former then went in unaided before Benno ran Pottsy in. 507 Guy Kikpatrick(Saab 900) fenced 77 David Paterson before the latter recovered to land a massive t-bone on the 200L. 105 Darren Briggs had 49 Ron Fulbirg(Sierra Est) out before Kirkpatrick went up the back of 182 Gazza only to cop a hit from Briggs for his troubles. The latter continued to put Gazza in before meeting the spun Benno in a meaty head on. 6 Paul Musgrove then took the luckless Gazza in before getting hit over the front wheel from Briggs. Fulbirg fenced himself on the home straight and was duly steamed by the lively Briggs while 35 Mark Cummings took an untroubled ride to the flag from Briggs and Gazza with no other finishes.
Down to 9 cars for heat 2 but Eddy Musgrove started it by taking out Kirkpatrick before Paterson t-boned Gazza. The latter bounced back to hit Eddy before Pottsy attacked Kirkpatrick. Eddy then took Gazza in only to put himself in as well as late arrival 85 Shaun Barnes ran Pottsy in only to be spun by Cummings moments later and headed on by Kirkpatrick. Briggs took out Paterson as Cummings took another win followed home by the recovered Paterson and Briggs.
7 for the final which finally got going after Cummings had met Benno head on, Kirkpatrick then taking Pottsy out as Briggs also headed 12 on. Briggs then steamed Cummings well on the back straight only to be hit up the rear by Benno with the latter also taking a big head on from Paterson. The latter continued to steam Pottsy only to be followed in later by Kirkpatrick. Paterson though continued his lively ways and duly recovered to take Pottsy in as Kirkpatrick won from Cummings and Barnes.
The Allcomers fielded 8 cars with Gazza in the wars at the start after being hit by Paterson and then assualted by Kirkpatrick while elsewhere Cummings and Paterson both went in on the top bend. 6 Paul then steamed Gazza only to come under attack from Cummings who fenced himself in turn. The latter recovered only to be taken out by 85 BBB as Pottsy hit Paul Musgrove and BBB then went against the flow the attack Benno with a large one over the front wheel, the Millom man also coming under attack from Cummings and then take a further two head on's from his attackers. BBB took out Gazza as he passed only to be silenced by Kirkpatrick who went onto win from Cummings as the only two finishes.
Again it was a case, of how it has been at many domestics this year, that action on track overuled the car turnout with an enjoyable session and a good days racing.
